What's the longest a relationship can last solely on the internet?

Asked by MacMan007 (1points) July 25th, 2009

Along with the explosion of long distance type relationships developing from online connections there are equally difficult traveling/re-location issues exacerbated by a bad economy that can get in the way of people being together immediately. In this age of internet spawned romance what’s longest period of time you think serious internet long distancers can remain apart until finally getting together is financially feasible?

Years and years

I would guess that it could last a long time. I’m sure how intimate you might be able to get, but the relationship could last a good long time. Especially because you’ll avoid the pesky problems that come with being in close proximity to one another.

It depends on whether you rely on Apple or PCs for contact. Not many PCs seem to last the distance. ;)

As long as the two people involved are willing to indulge in the fantasy that they have a relationship—which it isn’t, because it isn’t real. Gov. mark Sanford’s lasted, what, eight years with a handful of visits.

If this person is the one and worth it, then forever.

You mean never meeting in person at all? If so, then @Alleycat8782 How do you know if the person is really worth it?

I have used the internet for 7 years to fend off an old HS buddy. Writing and calling from time to time has enabled me to prevent him from leaping into his car and driving from Jersey up here. I can keep this up forever if it keeps him in his own state.

Oh ok whoops I thought you meant like you have met before but just a long-distance relationship. Well I went someone for like 3½ years long-distance and frankly we broke up when he moved back home. So I think if someone is so in love with someone then maybe, who really knows lol.

Years easily.
What sort of OS the PC runs is irrelevant. :|
…Macs are awful.

Well it’s been nearly ten months for my boyfriend and I, and how much longer we have to go is dependent on when he finds a job in my city.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

Years. It’s just a matter of truly loving who you found and knowing that one day you’ll be with them. It can be extremely hard, definitely, but it’s harder to throw it all away only to realize later that it was the stupidest thing you ever did.

Until they meet in person. Then the bullshit or honesty will prevail.

forever if you love the other one enough

I think it could last a long time, basically as long as you can stand without physical contact from that person. At one point, I think every relationship (if you’d like to call it intimate) needs physical contact, whether it be in the form of a kiss, a hug or sex.

not terribly sure, but this question makes me think there should be one for the record books…
