Why is everything i-phone compatible , are manufacturers forgetting windows mobiles?

Asked by sandystrachan (4417points) July 26th, 2009

Why is everything coming out saying its i-phone compatible , are these manufacturers forgetting about windows mobiles for a reason . Dont say cause windows mobiles are crap and i-phones are far superior . That is not a valid or good response.
For these things that are i-phone compatible would a windows mobile be able to connect and they just don’t advertise this or what ?
Ok the i-phone is the latest craze , windows mobile people would love to link there phone to there hi-fi or whatever .Why don;t they make them compatible for these devices also

If you’re talking about websites, yes a Windows Mobile phone could browse the website too. If you’re talking about accessories, well, some have iPhone USB plugin that’s not compatible with say a Treo, but if it’s a simple audio jack plugin, it’ll work the same.

iPhone compatible sounds better, it is the latest craze .:)

Sorry should have stated : Things like hi-fi and the like , come with an i-phone / i-pod dock . Yet they don’t come with attachments for windows mobiles , and websites make apps for the i-phone only why not make apps for windows mobiles also .

Windows Mobile phones are extremely fragmented, if you support 1 device that’s not enough because there are tons of others out there, so Hi-Fi makers usually don’t even bother, unless the phone helps them out as @crunchaweezy was saying about audio jacks. The iPhone has huge market share and lots of attention, and they already make docks and such for the iPod so why not.

Apps are for the iPhone because Windows Mobile doesn’t have an easy way to distribute or update them, and Microsoft isn’t pushing it, they are starting to now. It’s super easy for developers so they want to. Although Microsoft will have it’s own app store soon.

Also, the iPhone is far superior ;)

Apple has one phone

Windows Mobile is on like 30 different phones. Its not cost effected to make a device that can play with all of them.

The manufacturers are following the money. People with iPhones buy gadgets.

As much as you don’t want to hear it, right now the iPhone and iPhone OS are what’s hot and desirable and easier to design for, thus that’s what people are buying and thus that’s who manufacturers are targeting.

When designing for the iPhone, you know that the user has a fixed screen of a certain dimension and that their hardware will be the same. It’s easier to develop an application when you are guaranteed the specs of the hardware, it’s more likely to run correctly, etc. Since Windows Mobile is an OS and not a hardware/software combo like the iPhone, it is impossible to design for it since you don’t know the screen size of the user’s device, you don’t know their phone specs, etc. There’s no way of knowing if your app will work the same on each device or not.

Beyond that, Apple has created a device where it’s very easy for people to spend a dollar or two on apps. As far as I can tell there is no “App Store” for Windows Mobile, certainly not one that’s as popular or successful as Apple’s. People who use the iPhone tend to be very willing to spend 99 cents on an app, thus developers are attracted by the ability to make money for creating interesting and cool apps, so there are lots of apps for people to pick from so they buy the iPhone/iPod, thus more developers come… it’s a never ending circle.

The same is true for physical gadgets – people who use the iPhone are more likely to spend money on accessories, and it’s easier to design the accessories when there’s only a few models of the phone and iPod and they are very very similar.

Apple is very good at getting people to part with their money. Microsoft is not so.

Not sure, but I’m so envious of those free apps.
