Is there a way to opt out of the "Questions for you"?

Asked by jbfletcherfan (13212points) July 27th, 2009

Every morning I get up to a whole list of these ‘questions for you’ to read & go through. And, of course, I get several through the day. I find this VERY annoying! I’d much rather just go through the list of questions on the home page & pick out what I’m interested in. I don’t need to be told what questions to look at. Most of them I’m NOT interested in anyway! Can this be stopped through a setting somewhere?

Click on; list comes up; on right is “remove all” in red. Click on that and presto, gonno.

Yeah, you get them because of your “interests” delete them and you won’t get anymore

You can click on “remove all” and then sort through the main page on your own.

@gailcalled That’s “Activity for You,” not “Questions for You.”

You can also just click “all” or “Home”, no?

jbfletcherfan's avatar

Yeah, I’m not seeing a ‘remove all’ in red. Sorry if I’m being stuipd.

(stupid)..ha :-(

@Tink1113 That makes sense. Thanks. I’ve just deleted all of that from my profile.

@jbfletcherfan Hope it works :)

I’m waiting for a new question to pop up so I can take a screen shot. Now that I want a new question, none are coming. Figures.

@jbfletcherfan – I think Fluther builds a profile of you in the background independent of the profile. Removing the info may not help.

But Gail is right:
-Click “Questions for you”
-look in the top right, under “How does Fluther know what I know”
-Click “remove all”

This is kind of related: What is the difference between Remove and Not Interested?

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@fireside Ahhhh, I’ll do that, too.

@filmfann – I think “Not interested” adjusts the Fluther background profile. They send you questions based on the tags in the questions you answer, so if you answer something about Trucks and you start getting a bunch of questions about trucks, then you can click “not interested” and it will note that in your profile. Then you will get less questions about trucks.

This is all supposition on my part…

“Remove all” is all fine and good if you’re fluthering on a home computer. No such feature on the iPhone version however. :(

just don’t click on it! haha i feel like i’m missing something. i guess it is pretty hard to ignore, though. i’ve got over a thousand ‘questions for [me]’ and it does make me feel kind of obligated to go through them… (;

Jayne's avatar

I’m with @tiffyandthewall on this. I just ignore the questions for me.

@AstroChuck Welcome to Fluther. Lurve.

Here’s your button if you feel like removing them.

Andrew has been milling over ways to improve the whole recommendations experience as long as I’ve known him. I say ride it out and slowly watch the whole thing improve and give your feedback.

Some of Team Fluther’s ideas kick ass and I’m confident that this feature is slowly going to evolve into something that really works.

In answer to your question though; no, you can’t disable it.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

What all I did didn’t do it. I still have new questions this morning. :-( I guess I’ll just keep hitting ‘remove all’ until something better comes along.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@fireside I see what you were talking about way back up there. That’s what I’ve been doing all along. I just want them to totally go away in the list.
