I have old WGR614v7 netgear router that I would like to reuse as a repeater to boost our my WiFi network range. How do I go about doing so?

I have a similar Netgear router and tried to do the same thing. After a lot of searching and asking I couldn’t come up with a solution.

Use alternative firmware dd-wrt. I can’t get to their website right now, but I’ve read on other forums that it supports your hardware. I’ve updated a linksys router with it and it works great. Just make sure you follow directions you don’t want to brick your hardware.

Thank you for the comments. I also did the search before I post it here like johnpowell, but did not find a good working solution for my router with given HW version v7. That is why I posted it here.

sandystrachan, thanks for the link. I did look through but it did not provide a working solution. It said it cannot be done…???

dskimberlin, I do not think this hw revision was supported by dd-wrt. I’ll do the search but if your reference website is back up, if you can take a second look for me, that would be most appreciated.

The Hardware compatibility site for dd-wrt is still down. You may want to check periodically. If I remember to I’ll check for you.

Thanks for the reference dskimberlin. I did my own search and came up with the supported HW list here:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Netgear
It does not seems like WGR614 HW version7 is part of the supported list… Sad… =(
