Any clue as to why my cat becomes a bit of a mooch when I'm eating strawberries?

Asked by Jude (32204points) July 28th, 2009

I was sitting on my couch with a bowl of fresh strawberries in my lap. He stuck his big mug into the bowl and started to chomp at them. Anytime that I’m eating strawberries, he is right on me, and gets a bit crazy (rolling around like how he is with catnip). I didn’t know that cats liked them!!

My cat was the same way with popcorn.

I guess your cat just really likes strawberries!

Lol your cat must really like strawberries then! :P
You have a really cool and unique cat! =]

My cats aren’t interested in strawberries, but they will attack me over chocolate milk. Both the dogs and cats are very interested in fried chicken.

One of our cats loves chlorine bleach so we are always having to shoo him out of the laundry room.

Milo here; Left-over scraps of scrambled eggs with salsa and broccoli does it for me.

What an odd thing for a cat to like! Mine go nuts over meat, but we can’t give chicken to one of our cats…or we’ll be holding our nose for a week.

@casheroo: Since MIlo has never sampled meat (other than grilled mouse), he takes what he can get.

My cat loves onions. I hate them and never use them. But she goes crazy when someone is making something with them.

@johnpowell Onions scare the crap out of me.

I know a guy whose dogs love spaghetti. They go crazy whenever he cooks sauce.

My sister had a cat that would do tricks for lettuce.

@johnpowell Did you know that onions are very toxic for cats? We crave what is bad for us I guess.

irocktheworld's avatar

@Marina Aww I’d like to see that! :P

One of my cats will crawl in your lap and get up in your face for Red Vines, and my boy likes mandarin oranges.

Frankie going to town on the strawberry.

Pets are like us, they develop preferences for particular foods and then learn to recognize them. My doggie doesn’t care for champagne, cognac or beer but loves vodka soaked bread chunks and kaluah & cream as well as pears, strawberries, grapes and watermelon.

I had a cat who liked strawberries and cantaloupe – you might see if yours likes cantaloupe too.

Aren’t cats carnivores???

gailcalled's avatar

I think omnivores would be more descriptive. Milo eats grass regularly. And an occasional tiny piece of cheese.

pyrusj's avatar

Technically? Cats are carnivores because they aren’t meant to survive without meat. An omnivore can eat either or and be fine, but cats really need meat to be healthy, even though they do eat plants from time to time as well.

I can’t keep mine out of my ice cream bowl. And cheese, forget about it, it’s his.

Also, my mom had a dog that would sleep under the table during dinner and as soon as the table was cleared, he’d go sit by the freezer until the ice cream came out. We had to spell it when talking about it too, or he’d be flipping his dish to get i-c-e c-r-e-a-m.

@jmah if i didn’t know better, i’d think that you stole my cat. they look like twins!

@row4food aw, would love to see a picture of your boy.

Jude's avatar

Here he is at rest. How could you not love kitties? =)

row4food's avatar
