MIght cats have sneezing fits after a hardwood floor was sanded, in spite of serious vacuuming?
Both Milo and I have been sneezing today. The heavy rains are stimulating mushroom growth in the lower parts of my house even with two dehumidifiers. He looked as surprised as I felt when he let loose.

Chances are the dust is still in the air. Did he sneeze this time last year?
Between the mushrooms and the sanding, I would think it was possible. Considering I experienced something similar – along with my cat, dogs and son. I was pretty careful how I vacuumed after the sanding of our floors, but it didn’t seem to matter. We even used the floor sander that had the dust collection on it, there was still dust from the mess.
Are you still sneezing? If you are running AC, you might need to go ahead and change the filter and also consider vacuuming again and washing baseboards…and anything else that could have come in contact with the dust.
@tinyfaery; Very good point. There was no sneezing last summer.
@cak: No A/C here. I am vacuuming like a mad woman. (I even got under the strings on the piano, but the dust is insidious.
@gail – It took several times for me to really get it all up, along with some serious wiping down of the walls and baseboards. I really was careful about the vacuum cleaner, too. I made sure the filters were as clean as possible, each time I started again.
I hope both of you conquer the attack very soon!
@cak that’s what I was going to say, the filters in the vacuum cleaner might not be screening properly. I would suggest spraying a mist of water in the air to bring the dust down to the ground, and then use a damp cloth to clean the floor.
If the sneezing lasts more than one or two days, take them to the vet.
