I mean, it’s disgusting, undoubtably. But it’s a necessesity, yes. If I take it with me it might touch other stuff, which would be gross. But a new toilet-brush costs money.
What would you do?

They don;t cost that much. I always get a new toilet brush with a new place. Leave your old one behind for the next tenant.
You can’t afford a $4 toilet brush? You have bigger problems. Perhaps your mom will buy you one as a housewarming gift for the new place. Toss the old one.
You don’t have a trash bag to put it in? $4 is $4. No need to spend money just out of laziness.
If you soak it in bleach water, it will kill all germs.
Wrap it in paper and/or plastic and take it with you. That way it won’t touch other stuff and you won’t need to pay for it either.
Toss it in a plastic bag you get from a store, and haul it that way. When I need to clean a toilet at one of my properties, I’m not going to buy a new one for each place though it would be a good hint to renters.
That toilet brush has been your faithful servant since you got it, give it the respect it deserves. Trash it and run.

Toilet brushes are rather inexpensive, it’s usually best to just get a new one.
Yes, it’s only $4, but if we all throw out our toilet brushes every time we move, think of all the toilet brushes that are out there in landfills! Last time I checked, they’re not exactly biodegradable.
IMHO, I think we’ve developed a very “disposable” mindset as a society, which isn’t going to help in the long run. Unless the toilet brush is really no longer capable of doing its duty (pun intended) as a cleaning tool, I’d say wrap the top in a piece of plastic wrap with a rubber band or twist tie, throw it in a plastic bag, and move it to your new place.
I wouldn’t have a toilet brush in the first place ewww!
@sakura How do you clean the inside of your toilet then?
Get rid of it. Buy a new one and consider it as a house warming gift for yourself. You deserve it. =]
@casheroo disposable rubber gloves and then you can throw teh germs away, not the most environmentally frindly thing to do but better than having a yucky toilet brush at teh side of your loo, plus if you clean your loo on a regular basis and use a decent toilet cleaner, there shouldn’t be anything to scrub!!
