Is it more offensive to be shitty or slutty? (Please see details.)

Asked by jonsblond (44213points) July 29th, 2009 from iPhone

I was listening to a song on the radio today and I noticed that the word slut was allowed but shit was censored.

I find the word slut more offensive. Is it just me that thinks this way?

Why are some offensive words allowed but others are not?

Commence “why are certain words bad?” discussion.

@Ivan . . .For a young man that doesn’t believe in paranormal nonsense, you make more predictions than Miss Cleo.

Well, it all depends on the context of the words being used. For example: I’d actually rather be called a slut than a peice of shit. Although I’d most likely slap anyone who said either one, shit is slightly more offensive.
But I’ve also wondered that same thing! Another point is that the FCC will allow certain lyrics in the same song to be played in the music video, but not on the radio, and vice-versa. The censorship system is completely out of wack! It says in the Constitutuion that this is a cesorship-free country…so in my mind I think, Why have it at all? People are much too sensitive these days to get offended just by watching/listening to a show, they sould be more worried about providing for their families than if someone has a “dirty mouth”.

Reminds me of George Carlin’s Seven Words bit. (Warning! Language behind the youtube link!)

Times are changing. I remember when a girl was called a “ho” it was an insult. Our teen daughter and her friends call each other Ho as a greeting. Freaks

Neither. The most offensive word is of course: Removed by Moderators.

Slut does not offend me. I know that I;m not so I figure it redounds on the speaker. Also, guys can be sluts too. The c word on the other hand.

Also, I don’t like the s word. Dirty, dirty, dirty.

I’d have to say slut is probably more offensive, because it’s got a finer point on it. It’s something specific they’re accused of doing. But to call someone shitty it’s like “hey, nah, I’m not… wait, what exactly do you mean?”

To be honest, I don’t find either one offensive at all.
But I’d assume shit’s censored because it’s just been around for such a long time, while slut has just popped up in the past few years (as far as I can tell. I never hear it when I watch somewhat older movies).
I think it’s time we quit censoring words though, it’s ridiculous.

I’m not offended by either word either. When it comes to such things you simply consider the source. If a piece of shit is calling me a piece of shit I’m not really going to give a shit. Shit (one more for good measure)

@Marina Guys who are sluts are called studs. I know, I know…it’s silly, but that’s how it is.

Gadzooks, I think slutty goes slightly further than shitty, thou many people misinterpret slutty. A person can be, as in feel, shitty. They can act Boorish, which some will call shitty. They can be shady and thus do something shitty or do a shitty mood. Shitty is more to an external action, IMO. Slutty is more of an inner personal. It is hard to act slutty if you do not have any leanings to it in the first place, though some women it is just the fantasy to act slutty but never really carrying it out.. A lot of people want to equate slut, or sluttishness to what a woman wears cleaved from how she acts, when it is how she acts that determines is she is a slut or not.
