He writes thrillers, and what you do is close your eyes and point.
he also wrote a christmas book with really great illustrations about an evil santa. its one of my favorites. probably not what youre looking for since its not a novel but its still a cool book
They’re all pretty much interchangeable.
I like his early stuff, more akin to horror than suspense/thriller. I think Koontz is a good relaxing type of read. For that kind of slant I’d start with Watchers or Servants of Twilight.
My first Koontz novel was Twilight Eyes, and I loved it. It was just the kind of book I like to chill with—intriguing, fast-paced, and intelligent without being too demanding; a very well-crafted instance of its kind, with enough originality to keep it fresh and no irritating stylistic quirks or chronic grammar and diction problems. Parts of it invited a soundtrack from Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King” (Peer Gynt).
I like @hex‘s recommendations too. I don’t remember too many exact titles, but Koontz is pretty consistent.
My first of his was Mr. Murder. It had me hooked from the get-go. Maybe… maybe its just because I like ellipsis.
My absolute favorite is From The Corner of His Eye. It is epic with a large storyline and memorable characters.
But yea, other than that just like @bea2345 said just pick one! I haven’t read one of his that I didn’t like yet.
Other cool ones I’ve read are: Sole Survivor, Tick Tock, Lightning, and Midnight.
I really enjoyed Intensity. That book was very hard to put down.
<confession> I’m a lit major in love with Odd Thomas. </confession>
Start anywhere, there is no particular order to them. All of them are pretty good!
I’d recommend starting with the book Strangers. It’s a long one but the plot is very good, almost believable, and not too over the top like some of his other books.
I haven’t read any of his books that I wouldn’t recommend. They are all good. You might want to read them in the order he wrote them, to get an idea of how he changed over time, but that’s not necessary unless you are writing an essay about it.
I’ve only read one book by him and it was titled “Velocity”. It honestly wasn’t as bad as I expected. Some kind of murder/serial killer mystery if I remember correctly.
Thanks for the suggestions. I think i’ll either pick up Odd Thomas or the Watchers, they just pop out at me!
Funny thing is, i might already have that crazy Santa one, i think i got it from my father for Christmas about ten years ago. I thought it was way too creepy so i never read it. But i think i must go find it now. I hope i didn’t throw it away or give it away to somebody!
If you dont read Odd Thomas, Ill kill you. Its too good to pass up. :]
@kerryyylynn Well now that I’m facing sudden death, i WILL go read Odd Thomas :)
