Do you think your 5 most played songs on i-tunes (or whatever you use) summarize your taste in music?

because mine sure dont. my top 5 songs are songs i enjoy but probably not even in my top 50 favorite songs, if i were to compose such a list. all 5 are songs that i got into “kicks” with…i just kept listening to them over and over but now i’m burnt out on them. is this the case with everyone else? or are your 5 most played songs actually 5 of your favorite songs?

No, because all my classical music is on CD and that represents more than half of the music I have.
Damn good question.
My most frequently played on my iPod (my to-go iTunes) are my jogging tunes: mostly Creedence and Lenny Kravitz. But my favorite music is classic jazz (1959) which includes a very wide range of artists. So if you’re asking frequency, I’d have to answer “no”.
I shuffle mine, a lot, I rarely start with the same songs. That wouldn’t apply to me.
They very much summarize my taste. They may not be my five favorite songs but they still fit the genre of my favorite music.
Definitely not. My case is much like yours, @deni. The songs in my top 5 are songs that I just played over and over for about a week and they ended up with 60 something plays. I haven’t listened to my top played song in a while actually.
@Allie yesmmm exactly. my most played song is “dont worry, be happy” because for about a week i listened to it constantly. i like it but it was very excessive lol
Currently my top 5 are
1. Andmoreagain by Love
2. Beautiful Freak by The Eels
3. The Dark Is Rising by Mercury Rev
4. number9 by RareDenver (should I be worried one of my own tunes is in my top 5?)
5. Tech Romance by Her Space Holiday
Fairly good example of stuff I like I guess but a few of my favourite bands including my favourite of all time are not in there.
I listen to different songs depending on what state of mind I’m in. So, no…not really.
Hey @raredenver: Is “number9” posted somewhere? I’m curious.
Not at all. They do represent songs that work well in situations where I’m using my iPod—commuting, while working—and that I like enough to have been listening to for a couple of years, so they’re a good reflection of part of my musical taste. But they leave a good deal out, as well.
@RareDenver Nice beats, good development. Kind of straddles the line, though, between techno and house. You’re a bit ahead of the beat in some spots where you should definitely be behind the beat. Example: at 2:30 you come in with a high backbeat (also at 4:40) that pulls instead of pushes the beat. Delay it a bit and you’ll get a more sync feel. Nice transition at 5:30. I like how it kind of empties out at 6:30. Overall a good tune. Well done!
No. My top songs change based on the motivation behind them. Music is a tool for my moods and I pick according to what I want to tap into or inspire so I have playlists for making out, working out, sleeping, etc.
No. My top played songs are the songs I’ve had the longest. I listen to music more on my iPhone which doesn’t seem to update “plays” in iTunes.
mm yes. but they used to be completely off. one of them was a song i really didn’t like very much, but it was so annoyingly catchy, and i’d play it as a futile attempt to get it out of my head. also, i’d play certain songs on repeat when my friends were over.
i ended up resetting the count, just because it annoyed me.
right now, it’s pretty dead on.
Some yes, and some no.
My number one and two songs are by my favourite band/artist: Across The Universe and Whatever Gets You Through the Night (Beatles/Lennon). The other songs are just the ones I really like right now. I may not like any other song by that band. I swap out my music on my iPod a lot, since I have almost 1Tb’s worth, so I might have a jones to hear Me and Mrs Jones, for example, but I’ll change it out next week.
I do have some songs that I have never kicked off my current iPod since I bought it two years ago, though I don’t play them all the time:
Private Eyes by Hall and Oates
Astounded by Bran Van 3000 with Curtis Mayfield
Senses Working Overtime by XTC
The Groove Line by Heatwave
Shining Star by Earth, Wind and Fire
The entire Abbey Road album by The Beatles
and ever since I first heard it this year, Two Weeks by Grizzly Bear.
For me, mostly yes, but there are sometimes exceptions (especially when one of them is really catchy song). I also just switched from Songbird to Wimanp so all my play counts got reset.
1) Linkin Park: New Divide
2) The Offspring: Half-Truism
3) Seether: Careless Whisper
4) Nirvana: Smells like Teen Spirit
5) Green Day: Know your Enemy
Well. This is somewhat embarrassing, but whatever.
1) A-Punk – Vampire Weekend
2) Ocean Breathes Salty – Modest Mouse
3) Seventeen Years – Ratatat
4) Education – Modest Mouse
5) We Are Nowhere And It’s Now – Bright Eyes
Kinda an odd mix. Most of my classic rock is absent. That’s kinda unusual.
@aprilsimnel earth wind and fire. i LOVE them and that song.
My five fav:
Frank Sinatra How Insensitive
Edith Piaf Le Vie En Rose
Herb Albert This Guy’s In Love With You
Aretha Franklin Till You Come Back To Me
Donovan Catch The Wind
The are all slow, sad songs. I love other kinds as well. Jazz, Rock, old 30’s and 40’s stuff. These are just my calming songs.
