Looking back, how has the "wis.dm migration" ended up?

I just realized it has been about four months since the big move. Any people from wis.dm still here? Have we fit in nicely or can you still pick us out of the crowd?
Personally, I’ve learned to lurve this place just as much as my last home.

I think it has turned out beautifully in the end. Those who remained fit in very well and those that left never felt at home here. And one of the wis.dmers is a moderator now! How’s that for intergration?
I only know which of you are wis.dmers because I was here when you all joined us. You’re good additions and mix in well. I’m glad to see that quite a few of you have decided to stick around.
I didn’t know he was from wis.dm, cool.
I’m still around. I’ve been more active lately. It doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of us around, though.
I wasn’t here when the “migration” happened, so all I can say is…...I can’t even distinguish who is and who isn’t
@jeanna Yeah, not many are active.
@Tink1113 All I can say is, you missed one hell of an ordeal.
Apparently Aboynamedboobs still molests kittens.
PS. TCH is from wis.dm?
@Ivan well that never changes
What!?!? You can’t EDIT!!!!
I think it’s fitting for me to post the question I asked on wis.dm exactly 4 months and 9 days ago which started it all.
.
What Q&A site should we all migrate to?
My vote is fluther.com. It feels like the original wis.dm and it was voted the #1 Q&A site (wis.dm was 2nd).
@Ivan Yeah, TCH is from wisdm, though I have no idea who it was on wisdm.
@J0E I’m glad you chose us. :D
@augustlan I never expected to be the decider on where we went but that’s just how it happened I guess.
I lurve being a jelly and some of my favorite wis.dm folk have integrated with some of my favorite fluther and last.fm folk so I say the waters are fine!
they have been assimilated into the collective
resistance is futile
At the time, it was painful, but it has ended beautifully. I really don’t even think about who is posting what.
The pain of losing one’s Q&A home must have been intense. Coming here meant adapting to a different style. Some did. Some didn’t.
My activity here fluctuates but regardless I find the site to be generally enjoyable.
@jeanna I could take an educated guess
haha…good times.
I’m from wis.dm and AIROW. I migrated twice; I think it well. For me.
Like others have said, the people who left never felt at home and the people who stayed are making a positive contribution to this site.
yes I’m still here
it’s going just fine
:)
@Zendo one can not explain
it was a question and answer site
but you had to experience it
@Simone_De_Beauvoir Oh, I think I have met some folks from there on minekey. there is this real creep called ariovistus who always spams grog’s posts.
@phoenyx I doubt joe is any kind of moses at all, if he is the joe from the gazebo.
@Simone_De_Beauvoir I met him on minekey as he was doing battle with some creep from Iowa. I also met his online lover, JellyB.
Well… I’m here.
I like fluther quite a bit. It has some advantages over my former Q/A home. It also lacks things that wis.dm had in a bad way.
Overall, it’s been ok, but not the same.
@Zendo You’re Zen, aren’t you. Sneaky sneaky!
@Zendo
haha…oh Grog and Lemsteve. Will they ever learn?
@Zendo they’re not really lovers online either and yeah that’s lemsteve all right
@DominicX I guess not…if by learning you mean they will quit their feud…although it seems mostly it is the one guy wishing grog would hurry up and die from his cancer. What a prick.
@DominicX Hahahaha, it has become rather like an ongoing sitcom joke :)
It’s gone well, thank you.
LOL @Zen People around here are accusing me of being you. Say it ain’t so dude!
I’m more active than I was on wis.dm. I liked the people there but the lack of moderation turned me away too often. It’s great to know that many wis.dmers are still around.
Zendo=Zen, you gave yourself away with your comments about me.
I most certainly am not zendo. haven’t even really noticed him until this thread. hi joe.
I do miss having complete freedom of speech at wis.dm
@Pol_is_aware meh, as long as I can say fuck and call things retarded most of my needs are pretty much met…
lol they’re all well aware of my less than ivory vocabulary.
@ABoyNamedBoobs03 And we’ve notified the proper individuals. Ever wonder why you never get guacamole from Andrew?
<=== doesn’t like guacamole :P…
so ha!
Well, I’ve kept in touch with a few wis.dmers who moved to the Gazebo at http://membersrecipe.ning.com but it appears this site is shutting down on August 8. For web communities to thrive critical mass is needed. This applies to Fluther. And also a critical mass of nice people is needed to keep the jerks in check. This applies to Fluther too :-)
I also find Fluther’s diversity appealing. Lurvissimo!
@mattbrowne erudition is remaining open to get the gazebo refugees
Erudition is another wis.dm site for wis.dm evacuees?
@Simone_De_Beauvoir – Well, I tried Erudition some weeks ago and it gave me ‘Your membership is pending approval’. So I tried it again today and it gave me ‘Your membership is pending approval’. Hmm, let’s wait and see… Do you think Erudition got critical mass?
@mattbrowne Erudition is the less popular cousin of the Gazebo. Both are closing.
What is (or what was) Erudition?
i miss TheIowaCynic and Crusader.~
I don’t think Crusader was from wis.dm.
@Ivan oh. well. i don’t think i really missed him, either. ;)
IowaCynic is found on minekey
@eponymoushipster – No, Crusader was not from wis.dm, but an equivalent would be HoobaDooba and I’m glad he didn’t migrate to Fluther.
@mattbrowne Actually, HoobaDooba was jamesthesecond, and james does have an account on fluther but hasn’t been active.
@jeanna – Yes, Benny mentioned that to me only. I only got HoobaDooba replies, so for some reason jamesthesecond seemed to have avoided me. I heard that jamesthesecond was a little less extreme.
@mattbrowne
They’re the same exact person. I convinced him to create an account here but he has never used it.
@Ivan – I am so frakking glad about this…
@mattbrowne hooba was one of the worst trolls I’d ever seen.
Indeed. So here we have a case in point for the Fluther moderation approach. There’s a little trolling here as well, but it remains harmless. Hooba would not have survived for more than a week.
yeah he would have been gone in a hurry, trolling here isn’t so much trolling and just a few people being kind of annoying or unhelpful, but even then it’s certainly bearable.
James was one of the primary reasons I liked wis.dm so much.
The fact that I’m still here must answer for something? That and I’m still doing answerbag must mean I am willing to stick it out.
I’m still alive. Just got back from vacation and am spending my homework time piddling away in questions for me (had about 200 stacked up over the summer).
Well I quit wis.dm because they cared more about adding bells & whistles and complications over fixing their never-ending slow server issues. It was always so incredibly slow. And they had no desire to fix that. Instead they added chat rooms, categories, etc., making a slow situation even slower. I’m not surprised it disappeared with such mismanagement.
Every few months I’d check in, to see if the speed was fixed, and of course it wasn’t. Then one day it wasn’t even there at all. I really wish I knew ahead of time, so I could download my material. But like I said, I was avoiding the site because they had no interest in maintaining their server speed. So I waited a few months, then asked Google where everyone went, and it said Fluther, which I never heard of.
And so far, so good. And the speed is up to par, here on Fluther, which means they have their priorities in order. It’s simple too, just like wis.dm was before it got over-creative.
thanks Zen, and augustian
@Val123 – Hope to see you here on a regular basis!
Another wis.dmer stumbles in!!!
Wondered where you all went!
Hiya Mat! I’m behaving myself this time around, and not acting like such an arse! I’m getting much better results.
Good to here! Dutchess says you must behave on this site!
@Mat74UK: I have seriously missed brotherman willkillpatrick!
@Mat74UK LOL! I got Dutchess in the bag, man! She’s a nag! Nag-in-a-bag. Ha ha!! (Although on Inqure she just changed her name to Mighty Madam Fractus….she doesn’t know why.)
@hungryhungryhortence Who you? I have seen WKP in forever, either….
Was on wis.dm for a long while. I’ve been on Sharenator.com since it closed (not the same I’m Math on there) but stumbled on inquire a month or so ago that’s how I found out about here!
@Mat74UK I know who you are! You were MattK? Matt Something. Don’t know who hungryhungryhortence is….
OMG!! Where did you get that from????????
I’m from wis.dm and I find myself much happier here! I hope we have fitted in well and everyone is considered part of Fluther rather than an ex wis.dmer who migrated here when wis.dm died I feel much more at home here.
@Leanne1986 I don’t think anything can replace wis.dm, but I agree with you, I really love it it here. I’m beginning to really get into it.
Can I ask a humourous question in this place or will I get shot down?
It’s all about how you ask it, and the details.
I’m not feeling so misplaced either. It’s actually better than wisdm here! For crying out loud, you don’t grow cobwebs waiting for stuff to post! I think what we miss is the fact that we were all in pretty much at it’s inception so. But, I’m glad fluther’s here.
@Mat74UK Did you ask it? I’ll go look for it!
@Val123 no not asked anything humourous yet! Still got brain ticking over.
They clocked me for spelling “Weird” wrong in a question! I spelled it “Wierd.” I mean, they said, “You have too many typo’s. Fix it!” but…. that was the only one! So I changed it to “Odd.” :) Kind of a pain not to have a spell check in the question field….
I suppose I’m kind of around still. This place still feels very strange.
@Drawkward It’s got good people in it! Just stick around. ;)
