I enjoy being able to keep up with friends and family easily and quickly, and Facebook does that for me pretty well. I do like to share things that I find interesting, as well as read things that others find worthy of sharing.

But, really, it’s all personal choice.

samanthabarnum's avatar

For some people, yeah. Some people like to keep in touch with old schoolmates, learn about their coworkers, and network for business even that way.

Wow, there are 87 Yadira Molina‘s :-)

I use it mainly to keep in touch with extended fam.. We’re a mighty big bunch, and, so this way, we’re kept in the loop as far what everyone is up to. We get to see updated pictures of everyone’s rugrats, vacation pictures, weddings, etc. Apart from keeping in touch with the rest the clan, a lot of my good high school/university friends are on there. Thanks to Facebook, I was able to find them (or they found me). And, in the past year, I’ve gotten together with a lot of them. It’s been great. :)

It doesn’t have to do so much with the “cool factor” of Facebook, more of just a way to let people know what’s up quickly and easily. Facebook is used as a way to communicate with people, so yes, I think the share buttons are a good idea. So if, for example, you posted something new in your blog, of course you’d want to be able to communicate that to people without sending out a whole bunch of messages, posting it on all of your friends’ walls, or putting it in your status. And, I might add that those share buttons also usually feature sites like Myspace, Blogspot, Tumblr, etc.

Facebook is a joke. Those who need it don’t have a clue about life.

dynamicduo's avatar

I don’t need facebook, but I do enjoy using it.

That said, I host my own blog and keep my content on other sites, and never use Facebook for uploading huge amounts of content.

If your friends are interesting, then Facebook is interesting. If your friends are lame, then Facebook is lame. Same goes for Twitter.

erichw1504's avatar

It can be. I don’t do too much on it though. Just like to check out my friends pictures and the movie quizzes.

Facebook itself is about as interesting as a telephone. It’s just a way of keeping in touch with people who themselves may or may not be interesting.

@2late2be any relation to the Cardinal? :P

SecondGlance's avatar

That’s like asking if a phone is interesting, or Fluther, or Digg, or a radio. They are only tools used to communicate with others. I guess they’re all cool (meaning popular) in their own way.

@zendo – By logical extension, those of us who use Fluther don’t have a clue about life either. Or do you mean all humans who enjoy interacting with other humans, regardless of the medium, don’t have a clue about “life”? What an odd viewpoint.

@jeffpetersen – exactly. If your friends are lame, then telephones, Twitter, and life in general will be lame.

Its a tool to keep me entertained for 5 minutes.

Sometimes, i really like the games in facebook. Its a good way to waste time.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

meh, it’s a good way to keep in touch with people you don’t talk to on a daily or weekly basis.

I love Facebook. I have reconnected with old friends, & there’s a whole group of us Askvillers there. Since I don’t go there anymore, it’s my way to keep in touch. And I LOVE Vampire Wars. You get out of it what you want it to provide. It’s not a joke to everyone.

2late2be's avatar

@reactor5 Relation with what!? Or whom!?

2late2be's avatar

@Fly LOL, noooo! i didnt even know about him!!

If you really think about it, Facebook is probably the best social network in the world. It has features that no other social network has and does everything. It even has 3rd party apps that are pretty useful (don’t get to attached to those. They can get a bit annoying) Facebook is pretty great. It’s a great way to keep in touch. The reason that some people don’t like it or sometimes get annoyed is because they are tierd of hearing about it even though it’s really not that bad. (Ex: Jonas Brothers)

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

No it really isn’t though it offers some interesting opportunities to keep in contact with people you might not have kept in contact with otherwise. I wish I could block the status updates though.
”<username>... is currently enjoying oranges and cheese.”
Super.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@The_Compassionate_Heretic Boy, do I agree with you on that! I couldn’t care less what messages come through to others.

Quagmire's avatar

For me it was kinda silly so I left it. But it would be valuable if that was the only way I had to communicate with family and friends but it’s not.

And I thought the “games”, after awhile, were a nuisance.

knitfroggy's avatar

I like keeping in touch with people but I get really annoyed when I haven’t been on in a few days and I will have 38 Farmtown Requests and 30 people sent me a virtual beer. I don’t enjoy that part, I just think it’s dumb. Maybe I’m just dull…

kjc1971's avatar

I find it a great way to keep up with family and friends, especially for family and friends who may not live nearby.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

Psh, facebook from your phone is nifty… So is fluther from your phone! I think we should get a dowloadable app…

jamielynn2328's avatar

Facebook is just another way for stalking keeping in touch with my family. While it does not replace our phone calls or bbq’s, it’s another tool to joke around, share moments and pictures with loved ones.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

@jamielynn2328 hey you left your bathroom light on speaking of which… I’d get it for you but the branch doesn’t quite reach your window all the way…

filmfann's avatar

Facebook is fine for keeping in touch with people, but I don’t understand the attraction to the Farmtown or Pirates or Gangsters games.
I am tired of seeing lost cows on my FB page.

mrentropy's avatar

@filmfann The Pirates and Mafia type games get pretty old really fast. I don’t mind the farming games all that much because there’s something to do besides click the same button over and over again. I’ve been accused of getting many people hooked on Pet Society, too. Right now, Farkle and Bejeweled Blitz take up most of my time.

Even there, I end up competing with my relatives and friends quite a bit.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

I like Vampire Wars & drinks on me. Yes, the farm stuff gets real old. I ‘ignore’ all of that crap.

troym333's avatar

Yes it is, it really is that interesting.
