Why do people wash bathrobes?

Asked by windex (2932points) July 31st, 2009

Aren’t you clean when you wear them, like…I don’t know, AFTER you take a shower?
why would anyone ever wash a bathrobe?

1.Assuming that you do not walk around in one around the house, or eat or watch tv etc.
2.Also if your body does not secrete oil faster than a normal human

Hygene??
And it would be weird reusing them like that. Yes I know, after you take a shower, but still

Skin flakes come off your so-called clean body all the time, and the little microscopic creatures that live on them have a feast to multiply in. All kinds of pollution floats around in the air all the time.

If you don’t believe me, leave a cup of grape juice, coffee or other dark liquid out uncovered all night. You will be disgusted at what you see there. You can also see it in the dust that accumulates on your furniture.

In that case, why would they wash bath towels? You’re clean when you dry off and assuming you let them dry instead of lay in the floor and mildew they should be fine.

I would wash them because we shed dead skin cells, we do secrete oils, we might get a little sweaty, the cat might sit on your lap. There are a lot of reasons.

That would be like never washing towels! Mildew and all sorts of other gross stuff can go on in an unwashed robe.

XD I will continue washing my bathrobe. :(

Thanks everyone

To fool the tigers which are pursuing them.

For the same reason people wash their towels.

Some pretty major assumptions there bud. So you only put on your robe from the time you step out of the shower until you walk across the hall and get dressed? I don’t think that is the case for a lot of us. I wear one while brushing my teeth and putting on my face. I wear one when I am home sick and don’t get dressed. I wear one on cold nights before going to bed instead of ramping up the heat and on weekend mornings when I read the paper and have a cup of coffee before getting dressed. Right now I have a blue terry one and pink fluffy one and yes I wash them regularly. I also wash my bath towels even though I just use them right after I shower,

cause mah peeps touched it.

I wear my robe whether clean or slightly soiled…that’s why I wash it

BBSDTfamily's avatar

@windex You could make the same argument that people shouldn’t wash towels by that logic…

@ABoyNamedBoobs03 Do you not wash your “peeps”? If you do then why does that matter?

Zendo's avatar

I just spray mine with Windex and have done with it.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

@BBSDTfamily cause it’s mah peeps. I wash everything mah peeps touches.

hands/boxers/pants/mouth/towel….

Please send your address so we can direct the HazMat team there for disposal of your bathrobe.

lol ok, serious answer.

Bathrobes don’t necessarily get dirty from you, but often you’re at least still a little wet when you put it on, and it’s usually nice and warm water. when you change you hang it back up on a hook on a wall or in a closet, which aren’t the dirtiest places in the world, but still have plenty of bacteria, as does the water you showered with in the first place. the bathrobe sits out until you use it again and after two or three times there’s enough bacteria and mildew on it to make it smell or just be generally unhygienic. So, that’s usually reason enough for me to wash something.

marinelife's avatar

@ABoyNamedBoobs03 That is incorrect. They do get dirty from the wearer. We shed skin cells, soap residue, body oil all the time even after baths.

Here is what one article says about towels: “The main reason that towels are such an accumulator of germs is because of the moisture that they hold after they have
been used. This is a place where bacteria is known to lurk.”

The same would apply to bathrobes.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

was just saying it isn’t limited to the wearer.

Zendo's avatar

Many people wear their bathrobe before showering, too.

marinelife's avatar

@BNB3 My bad. My excuse is it was the middle of the night. I did not read your post carefully enough. Just pile on the additional stuff from the body to what you listed!

Judi's avatar

That’s just yucky.

@galileogirl I’m wondering where you keep your face before you put it on, and how odd you must look when you are faceless. What keeps your brains from sliding out of your sinuses?

galileogirl's avatar

1. Parts of it are stored in various containers/ When I want to put on a seriou face, I have to go to my bank securiy box.

2. Haven;t ypu ever heard of putting on a blank face (at home like slippers)

3. Velcro

Jeruba's avatar

Why would you want to use anything that you never wash or clean?

La_chica_gomela's avatar

Not to mention all the other myriad of reasons, I don’t only wear my bathrobe directly after leaving the shower. Sometimes I lounge around in it whether I just got out of the shower or not. I like to be comfortable.
