Why do boys play baseball and men play softball?

men and boys play football (that’s “soccer” for americans)

Probably because as you get older, you get more afraid of a hard ball knocking you on the head, or otherwise just want a slower-paced game.
The balls themselves are made out of cork and/or rubber I believe.

I haven’t heard of that, and a softball is soft because it is made up rubber stuff. @Sarcasm beat me too it.

I think a baseball is easier to hit than a big softball. If you think of it, a baseball goes farther.

Because you can’t get drunk when you play hardball—you’d really hurt yourself.

I think the real reason, though, is that grown men playing hardball would need a significantly larger diamond and field than you’d find in most parks. Think of how large a baseball stadium is. Now make it 25% smaller. That’s still way, way too big for most people to play in.

As you get older, you get wiser. The softballing older gents still love the game, but fear the hard fastball.

men play softball because it’s just safer. (we take more time to heal than the kids, ya know.)

Men play softball because they aren’t allowed to play kickball.

@Darwin yeah, just what we need, a bunch of old guys with snapped knees and dislocated hips form playing kickball.

I imagine its because the skill level isn’t there for everyone. It’s hard to field a team of 9–12 hardcore serious baseball players but it’s probably more likely to get that many people together for slow pitch softball.
