We're going to Vegas... any suggestions?

Asked by christine215 (3173points) August 5th, 2009

This is our second trip to Las Vegas… this time we’re NOT renting a car (we only used it about three times in the week we were there last year) any suggestions for an itinerary?(Must see places, places to eat, hidden gems?) I feel like we missed so much last year… we were like a couple of A.D.D. kids…

Eat at Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris. It’s amazing- excellent ambiance, food, service, and the price is pretty good, especially compared to other Vegas restaurants of that caliber.

Go to Freemont St at night. The dome show is kinda neat, and if you’re into gambling it has the cheapest blackjack and 3 card poker I found.

If you’re looking for something really special to do, make a reservation to take a helicopter ride over the strip at night. It’s about $100 a head for an 8-ish minute flight, and it’s incredible. I’m terrified of heights and almost had a panic attack right before. But it was awesome.

Paris breakfast buffet. I’m not much of a gambler, but I would consider taking another visit to Vegas just for that buffet.

See a. Circ show. Mystere and O ar both great. Love is ok, but not really a Circ show. Great if you like interpretive dance, but not the amazing athletes like the ones directed by Franco Dragone.

I always win on the Star Wars slot machines ;-)

Don’t go. :-)

I found it all hype, dirty, pricey and now that everyone brings their kids. It is just whack. Not the Vegas of your dreams or of what Hollywood wants to sell it to you as. Just not the same as it once was. Over bloated money pit.
Do you have plenty of cash? Then any place can be a cool place. Vegas gets nicer the higher the floor your room is on and the bigger it is. If you like to Gamble, well that is what it is there for.
Otherwise, I would say go to Reno. More like the old Vegas.

My opinion. Don’t stress out all you Vegas lovers. :-)

@ChazMaz you just didn’t find the right party my friend.

you’re right though, it get’s expensive, only been there once, and I’m not sure if I’d go back just because it emptied my bank account like nothing else.

I partied at the Wynn last time I was there. That place is sweet. I mean I was there I did make the best of it.
Would I go back? Nope.
Could of had a better time in the Bahamas or Puerto Rico. And, in the long run would have saved a few bucks.
And like I said, better party = more money.
Especially in Vegas.

Unless you’re a really good Omer player. My husband usually earns enough at the poker tables to pay for our meals and shows. (If I don’t loose it at the slots. )

lol slots are evil, I try to stay away from those. black jack and poker are great thrills though.

@ChazMaz I think it largely depends on who you go with and your expectations. I was there earlier this summer for 6 days with an awesome group of about 10 friends. Aside from what I lost on gambling, I spent maybe $300 total on entertainment and had the time of my life.

You don’t have to spend a ton and go to the swankiest places to have a blast. And drinks are free if you’re gambling.

Do anything AND everything because you’re covered. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
