Another homework question: Why are some groups important but overlooked consumers both of advertising and products?
I’ve selected both mentally and physically handicapped groups to discuss. I’m having a bit of problem understanding the words “consumers of both advertising and products”. Does this mean there aren’t that many advertisements geared towards them? And not many products made for them?
My take on this is that the group has generally been shunned by society and regarded as not being able to afford the products they need.
Comments and advice, please? Thanks

Advertising focuses on the majority – the mentally and physically ill are not, in their minds – nor, are they in the minds of society, contributing members of society…ironically, this way, they escape stupid shit like advertising in the first place
Another way to look at it would be to consider the profitability of making products and advertising to smaller groups.
A lot of products only become relatively affordable due to the efficiencies of mass production. If there isn’t a big enough market, then it might not make sense to make a product. Or in order to reach the break even point a higher price is charged for the product.
Unfortunately that is often why products for such groups are so highly priced, or they go unmade.
Another example would be Third World Countries. They make up a large part of the world populace but because they don’t have the resources to pay for products, they go unserved. Something as small as mosquito nets would help eradicate malaria, or anti-biotics to cure infections. That is why these type of things usually fall under charity, because it doesn’t make business sense.
No money and/or no purchasing power, means no products or ads geared toward you.
