I know there is software to monitor the battery power in a laptop’s battery. I am looking for software that would monitor the battery in the wireless mouse, and display it on screen.

Well, did your mouse come with an installation disk? Because mine did and when I installed the software for it, I now get notifications to when the batteries are low and how long it’ll last. There’s also a slew of other features that I could do with it, like setting up the extra buttons to do specific tasks.
If you lost your disk or it didn’t come with one, then try looking up a driver for your specific mouse.
@se_ven, that was a 2004 post. When I look at the Mouse Control Panel, it doesn’t show me power.
@erichw1504, no disk came with it. When I tried to update driver, it told me it WAS.
Have you searched the interwebs for software specific to your mouse or anything that can monitor wireless mouse battery life? I did a quick search, but didn’t find much. If I do though, I will let you know.
If it is a typical wireless mouse, there will be no software that can monitor the battery level. This is because the mouse only sends information to the computer about the location and movement of the mouse. It has no circuitry in the mouse to send information to the computer about the battery. Therefore, no software on the computer can interrogate the mouse about the battery.
That said, there are some mice, Logitech MX for example, that do report their battery level because they are designed to report it to their own software.
“HID compliant mouse” is the only thing my hardware is showing.
I got my mom a Dinex wireless mouse and it tells her when it’s low. She’s got XP Professional.
@PerryDolia, I DO get a message when it comes time to change the battery. So doesn’t this mean the mouse is talking to the computer about the battery? I want to see a meter showing how close it IS to that point
