Has this happened with your cat and what did you do to cure it?
I think it bothers me more than her and it was much worse when I first got her several months ago, but there is this black stuff around her chin which its only obvious when using a very fine toothed flea comb. It looks like flea dirt but definitely is not.
The Vet said it’s a type of dermatitis and stop using plastic food dishes. I did that immediately, but it keeps coming back. I’m wondering if Peroxide might help? Or is there something else?
I’m assuming alcohol might be too strong.
I’m trying to avoid another Vet visit for such an apparently minor issue since I recently shelled out around $250,00 for something that really was a life and death issue which seriously put a dent in my budget.
Anybody else dealt with this?

Sometimes these conditions are non life-threatening and not worth the money to cure. You say you can comb it out? I bet your kitty loves that! petting and holding and combing…You can comb her every day?
Vet instructed me to wash cat’s chin daily for a week with Oti-Clens ear cleaning solution for dogs, and thereafter as necessary.
It doesn’t hurt to CALL your Vet. MY Vet would understand the expense problem and give me advice over the phone or, depending on how recent the last visit was, see the cat for free.
Feline acne is quite common. You can use an antibacterial/anti-malassezia type wash designed for acne or a stridex type product to gently scrub the affected area. You’ll probably want to dilute the product (4:1) so you don’t need to rinse the area.
Use caution – don’t get the product in the mouth or anywhere near the eyes.
My cat has this and it is very obvious since she has short hair and a white chin. The vet said it was acne and to clean it with peroxide diluted 50% with water. Cleaning it bothers her a lot more than having it does.
