Where can I find milk crates?

I’m trying to find milk crates for my dorm in the fall. Where are some places where I can find some sturdy, vintage milk crates? I don’t wanna go to Bureau en Gros because they don’t look that sturdy, and to be honest, they don’t look that cool.
Is there a listing of dairies in certain areas? Should I just go to an alley of a grocery store and take them?

It was about 40 years ago, but yes, mine came from alleys behind dairies or convenience stores.
Check with local dairies. They may sell you some or let you tack a few on to their next order of crates. I think the ones at the store are returned to the dairy?
They call them file crates now and you can get them at any office supply store. There are no longer any ‘free’ crates behind grocery stores. They can’t afford to give them away.
I’m with what the eff…but it like he says, it was 40, fitty years ago dude.
Go steal them from a restaurant.
You have to steal them if you want the real thing. They do cost the milk companies money to replace, so they don’t give them away for free. Personally, I would do it a proper way and call up a local dairy and ask them, because I wouldn’t want to feel the guilt of stealing the milk crates every time I use my shelf, and I would feel such guilt because I am becoming more sensitive to the costs of farming.
I would post an ad on every local classifieds website you have access to in hopes that someone wants to give theirs away for a small price.
Sometimes you can find them at garage sales. i would also check CraigsList.
Stealing does not seem a good way to start off your college career.
Is there a Container Store near you? They have a website. You might be able to buy neat ones there.
