Where can I get a Web mentor?

Asked by patg7590 (4608points) August 8th, 2009

The problem is, I do alot of web work, and I don’t know all that much, but I know more than anyone else I know, where can I get help? Are there any really good forums people have had experience with? IRC channels? anything?

Currently I use Joomla, Wordpress, Dreamweaver, I know HTML, basic CSS, and barely enough about javascript and php do to anything. I would like to learn Drupal and Flash/ActionScript.

Thanks!

IRC is great, most projects have a channel on irc.freenode.net. I assume they’d be #drupal, #wordpress and such. For PHP you might want to use a framework (like Zend Framework) with lots of documentation available and an own IRC channel (which would be #zftalk for Zend Framework). And of course the documentation from php.net.

IRC works sometimes but I can actually never trust it. What i do is just have a list of friends/people who are extremely good at specific fields. So if i ever get stuck, they can help me out and stuff. How do you find such people? You discover them all across the internets. Like talk to people on IM, discuss stuff and people will usually be pretty friendly.

Join a forum that specifically deals with those languages. Or ask someone on here :)
