Has anyone actually had all their wisdom teeth come in and not need to be taken out?

Asked by Steverpeeps (292points) August 8th, 2009

I was just wondering if there were people that have their wisdom teeth in and didn’t need to have them removed. I’m have a corner of one of mine sticking out and the dentist had said a while ago that from the x-ray, mine were growing straight up and just fine. So, if anyone has all their wisdom teeth, I’d like to know!

My wisdom teeth came in straight, and with no difficulties. However, the dentist, at my last checkup, said that they’re starting to decay, simply because it’s very difficult to properly clean them. so i’ll have to have them out anyways.

My father has all four of his, but mine all came in sideways and had to go. He is 83 so he’s had them for a while.

I never had mine removed. At least, not in the sense of “You’ve got to have your wisdom teeth removed.” I did eventually lose two that went bad.

I can’t speak for myself as I have no wisdom teeth. I’ve never had them. They just never appeared.

But I have a friend my age who’s had his for over a year now (fully grown in) and is not having them removed. He’s never reported any pain associated with them, his mouth is big enough for them, and they’re perfectly straight, so no need to get rid of them.

My doc said my mouth was big enough for them. I’ve had them for a while now. No problems with them either. My friend, Corey, had his removed. I’ve heard it’s really paintful.

My ex has all four of his and hasn’t had a problem with them at all.

Mine are still there, but have never came in. No issues with them yet.

Got all of mine, have had them over 12 years. I just recently got a filling in one, they are hard to keep cleaned well. I have no current issues with them.

I still have all my wisdom teeth.
Why do they call them wisdom teeth anyway?

You mean have the person taken out?

I have a friend who is from Canada, and she told me it’s not a normal procedure to get done like it is here in the US. She said they allow them to come in, and then pull them or don’t pull them at all.
I personally only know that my mother never had to have any removed, because she never had any wisdom teeth. I had mine removed because they started pushing on my jaw at age 21.

@casheroo

We seem to have a thing for unnecessary surgery in this country, like the rampant wisdom teeth pulling and the infant circumcision craze. I’m just glad I got to skip out on both of those.

Yep I have mine.. they started coming in when I was 13 actually. And I’m a luck one, I have perfectly straight teeth and the wisdom teeth didn’t make it too cramped, they’re still straight :)

@derekpaperscissors they are called wisdom teeth because they apear at much later age than other teeth erupt. Because you are older you are also wiser (or so the thinking goes).

I have all of mine, came in just fine. Yay for big jaws!

Quagmire's avatar

And I don’t have them at all. They never came in.

Steverpeeps's avatar

Wow! I didn’t know that many people had straight wisdom teeth! That’s encouraging! lol.

Lightlyseared's avatar

@Steverpeeps Thats becasue the only people who ever talk about their wisdom teeth are the ones who had problems, were in excruciating pain for weeks and then had to have them removed usually at great expense. It kinda screws up the sample.

casheroo's avatar

@Lightlyseared Include me in that group. Fucking wisdom teeth.

Steverpeeps's avatar

lol, hard times? My one wisdom tooth is breaking through, and I am wanting to chew on pencils! lol, I understand my baby girl now, lol

I have my wisdom teeth, and they started comming in when I was 12, so it has taken almost 10 yrs, for them to fully come out. I will tell you that was some of the worst pain I have ever been in. But the only good thing is that they came in stright.

Steverpeeps's avatar

So, you had a lot of pain from them pushing through, but they were fine once they pushed all the way through? And I was in a lot of pain last night; so do you know what works good for pain? Like maybe Tylenol?

Darwin's avatar

Motrin and some Anbesol should help. If they don’t then you should talk to your dentist.

brinibear's avatar

I know that this sounds weird, but if you can get a brand new toothbrush, and boil it, in hot water to sterlize it, chew on it. like a baby does when teething. Thats what I did. And it helped out a little bit. But the whole process hurts like hell. So make sure that you have meds around. If you start bitting the back of your cheek, you should go to the dentist, cause you mouth might be to small, and have them extracted.

Steverpeeps's avatar

That’s what I’m afraid of! They are grow straight up and perfectly, and it looks like I should have plenty of room, but ? We’ll see I guess! I will try that too!
