Do the american, british, australian, canadian dislike one another?

I have spoken to Australians before. They don’t think they are British. They think they are better than the British.

The difference between all four nationalities are a general location and a passport. You cannot label a nationality with a generic different stereotype in terms of character, behaviour or attitude.

Though Americans have a good long history of being ignorant of everything outside of their country.

I’m Australian. Damn right we’re better than the British.

It’s the same reason kids think they’re better than their parents because they’re not so tied down by tradition and culture (Which I might add is doing wonders for your parliament, apparently).

Well american dislike is… Pretty universal in the world, unfortunately. Europe, Asia, Middle East, etc all dislike the US for one reason or another. Most of those reasons involve the words “George Bush”. I’m sure you can tell why.

Canadians are awesome, though. Anyone who can survive winters like they have up in that frozen wasteland is fair dinkum to me.

I think it’s the international equivalent of sibling rivalry: UK being the oldest, US the rebel runaway and Australia the black sheep of the family – obviously they will all pick on each other and highlight flaws, but end of the day, they actually get along for the most part (it’s been a while since they had an actual fight).
[edit]: ....and Canada is the cousin that spends as much time with the other family (French) as with the English and therefore is a little different…

I think it might just be that we all share a common language and heritage and this makes real rivalry difficult as there isn’t really much difference between any of us, it does however create the perfect opportunity for that friendly banter/ piss taking type behaviour that you get between close groups of friends.

None of us really hates the other it’s just that as we are so similar our little differences become the perfect things to caricature each other on.

Not true… Some red necks in Arkansas really think that America is the most awesome place on earth and everything else can go to hell.

Americans are a very insular race,pretty much ignorant of the outside world apart from what they get fed via media.
Aussies are just loud and superficial.
British are very very easygoing until pushed into a corner,they take all manner of crap from other countries but dont push to hard as you may be found wanting.

And I don’t think I’m better than any of you guys. Conversely, I don’t think you guys are any better than me, at least on a micro level. You’re human, and such, you are innately weak. You live tragic lives. You will fail. You will die.

What’s interesting is how you assume us to be ignorant to the world around us; that we believe in what is force “fed via media”. A statement like that is entirely insular, ignorant and baseless. Daft.

Canadians love everyone, though a lot of us do have a certain negative general opinion of America and Americans.

Well, as someone American who is absolutely in love with the British (and Welsh) accent, here’s my two cents. I love talking to Brits, male or female. I love the Australian accent as well, but it does have its differences. And Canadians, well I like speaking to Candians because (for the most part) they are incredibly good hearted and have a fine sense of humor. And as for the people from Quebec, the French Canadians, they seem to live in a world of their own, and the majority of western Canadians find them obnoxious and rude. I know plenty of Canadians from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Alberta that think those from Quebec are arrogant and undesirable. I believe this dislike stems mostly from the people of Quebec that expect everyone that lives there to actually speak their bastardized version of French. =)

Back in June, I did meet a Canadian with a Scottish accent that used to drive a truck in Europe. His knowledge of languages and cultures was incredible, and he had the best sense of humor of anyone I’ve met in a long time.

Those with the other English accent are the same as everybody else, including us ignorant and ethnocentric Americans, it just varies from person to person.

I don’t know as an American I have always had a positive attitude toward the aussies, and the canadians are so close its just fun to make fun of them and I feel like the brits are like an older brother who was superior for a long time until we finally grew up and out did him.

As an American with a father brought up in a British school, relatives in Australia, and who has traveled a lot in Canada for business, I have to say I don’t feel any rivalry. I enjoy both the similarities and the differences, and I always find good grub anywhere I go.

I even enjoy Montreal, although I speak very little French. The point is that I try to speak French so everybody seems happy to see me.
