Can I attach a USB port to an Apple Airport Extreme?
I’m setting up a home media center with an Airport, Mac Mini, etc. and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to plug a hub into the 1 USB port on the Airport Extreme. I know that Time Capsule does this – will Airport Extreme? I don’t see it mentioned anywhere.

Good question. I know it has a USB back there but the only purpose I can find it’s being referenced to is for a printer.
@Bri_L yeah, i know it’s got 1 usb port. i assume either a external HDD or printer would work. on the apple site, they specifically mention a hub in regards to the Time Capsule. On one hand, i want to believe the WiFi router part works the same. On the other hand, specifically mentioning it for one and not the other is a bad sign.
@eponymoushipster #17 is what you’re looking for here. This is another doc on it.
It sounds like you can, but I’m not actually sure.
@dverhey thanks. yeah, i found that just now myself. apparently you can.
thanks very much!
i have one downstairs, i could test it if you want me to…
Let us know how it works who ever tries if you wouldn’t mind.
I’ll try to test it tonight :) i’ll just hook up 2 usb sticks with a Hub, easy peasy right ?
@iwamoto sounds good. i’d like to know if it’ll be with the usual Apple ease, so if there’s some rigamaroll involved with it. thanks for being a guinea pig for us! :)
I will throw my self on my own Airport Extreme with out hesitation!!
as an aside: I just got a Time Capsule (500gb) for $170, and a Mac mini. They should arrive shortly in the mail.
@Bri_L lol. your admiration is appreciated. :) I’m moving into a new apartment, and i’m using the mac mini/time capsule setup as a media center. foregoing cable tv altogether. just 20$/month for internet service, and the initial computing costs.
