I've been having these pains almost everyday, what could they be?

Asked by chelseababyy (7939points) August 11th, 2009

So I’ve been getting these pains every night for the past few days. The area of the pain starts right below my boobs, and ends right at the top of my hips. The pain I’m feeling is kind of like stabbing pains, in different areas throughout that region. I thought maybe it was from being hungry, but I’ve eaten all throughout the day.. So I’m not sure.

What could these stabbing pains be?

appendicitis?

pregnancy?

Gall bladder problems? “Nervous stomach?” Gas? If they really hurt and you develop other symptoms, then I would go see a doctor.

they could be kicks…

chelseababyy's avatar

I’m not pregnant, that I’m 100% sure about. And I don’t think it’s appendicitis, because I went to the doctor for that once, and he said pain caused by that is usually just in that particular area.

gailcalled's avatar

Heartburn? It usually radiates from sternum up esophagus, however.

casheroo's avatar

Ovarian cysts…my pain goes all the way up to my ribs. The doctors always think it’s appendicitis, but I get checked out for it and haven’t had it yet.
Appendicitis is a concern though.
Gall stones.
Pregnancy is doubtful, that isn’t a symptom I’ve ever heard.
Could just be gas.

It’s always best to see a doctor when it comes to abdominal, because this could be an emergency situation.

chelseababyy's avatar

@gailcalled It’s not heartburn. I’ve had that before. Plus that wouldn’t explain stabbing pains all throughout my abdomen.

chelseababyy's avatar

@casheroo Cysts were my first guess. I’ve had one rupture before, and was told I had another too. That’s kind of what it feels like :[.

i knew a girl who got cysts on her ovaries. she was in bent over intense pain. screaming pain.

they made her get off birth control, and told her the best fix was getting pregnant.

chelseababyy's avatar

@eponymoushipster Haha, I had them before. The day before Thanksgiving in ‘07. That was also the day I had to drive myself to the hospital in a golfcart while in intense pain. God I love Florida.

eponymoushipster's avatar

@chelseababyy that sounds almost fun. you know, except for the fear of death.

casheroo's avatar

@chelseababyy Are you on the pill? I had to go on the pill to get my cysts and endometriosis to stop flaring up. I have cysts all the time, I still have one on my right ovary and I’m pregnant…it will absorb eventually, but they come back right after the pregnancy :(
I doubt it’s rupturing, it could just be bugging you. They cause such annoying pain…your pain sounds like the kind I get. I always go to the doctor just in case it’s something else though. Last time I went, they diagnosed me with a hernia :(

Darwin's avatar

If it feels like something that you had before that you had to seek medical care for, then I suggest you go get medical care again.

Just in case.

chelseababyy's avatar

@casheroo ATM, I’m not because I don’t have insurance. However I will by August 31. However once I get it, you bet your butt I’ll be getting on the pill. Also, I’m hoping it doesn’t rupture like my last one. It was horrible. I’ve been having the pains for about a week now, every night. Last time it was just in my side.. Weird. I was considering cramps, since I was due any day now, but I know how my cramps feel, and they’re usually in my lower ab area.. So maybe it is a cyst.

casheroo's avatar

@chelseababyy Ack, you poor thing..I’ve soo been there :( I swear, I could probably find some birth control to send you. Obviously I’m not using it. I have two packs of NuvaRing. don’t think they’re expired, I can check the label I wonder if that would help the cysts in the meantime. I know I don’t have any pills left :(

eponymoushipster's avatar

@chelseababyy i don’t have any pills, but i could send you a picture of myself. that’s a proven method of birth control. :)

Sounds like what my mother used to say before her diagnosis of Kidney infection. You need to go to you doctor, it could be serious.

chelseababyy's avatar

@casheroo Aw that would definitely help. I’m looking up the symptoms more (since I never did last time I got one) and it’s definitely sounding like a cyst. But the symptoms are so broad, so I’m not sure. It also says it makes your cycle irregular, which it was (I KNOW I’m not pregnant) that’s impossible, plus I’ve taken tests) so who knows.

Looking for health answers on the internet is a dangerous game to play, especially with your life at stake.

I’ve been guilty of it in the past, and going to an actual doctor proved every time that there is no replacement for the advice of a licensed and experienced professional.

chelseababyy's avatar

@drdoombot True. But I have no car ATM.

Dr_C's avatar

In the mean time the symptoms you mentioned are not consistent with apendicitis, gas, or a kidney infection… there are RARE variations of relatively common and simple conditions that have unusual presentations of symptoms… but not often enough to be cause for concern.

The best thing you can do is go see your doctor ASAP.

Dr_C's avatar

The first half of my answer didn’t show up…

I was going to say that there is no way to accurately diagnose your problem based on your own perception of your symptoms… a thorough physical examination is necessary in order to not only qualify and quantify your symptoms.. but also to gauge specific reactions to specific stimuli and be able to get an accurate and complete view of what your symptoms may be a sign of.

It’s important of course to also have a thorough medical history (please tell your doctor about the cyst) as well as some knowledge of external variables that range from environmental factors to diet and hydration. The only way to know for sure is to visit your doctor. Anything else is just speculation and can only confuse the issue or (depending on the opinion) scare you.

Why don’t you go to the emergency room of a hospital? They have to treat you there. It sounds like you really need to get some treatment ASAP. Surely someone can drive you ther if you don’t have a car. Why are you waiting around for this to get worse?

Bri_L's avatar

@Dr_C – Yeay I was going to go find you for this link!!!!

chelseababyy's avatar

@janbb Boyfriends @ work. I don’t really know anyone else here, the only two other people I know are @ work.

janbb's avatar

Maybe he can take you when he gets off work? I hope you feel better soon, chelsea!

chelseababyy's avatar

@janbb Thanks. He gets off @ like 11. I’ve been talking to my Mom who is in the medical field. She said to see how it feels in another 2 days. If it’s still hurting then I should see someone.

janbb's avatar

o.k. – good luck with it.

chelseababyy's avatar

UPDATE:

Ended up going to the Emergency room at about 11:30, just got home and it’s almost 4. I have a cyst, pretty drugged up and got some percs for pain. I have to wait it out to see what the cyst is going to do, and follow up.

Bri_L's avatar

@chelseababyy – My goodness! I have good thoughts for you. Please take care. I am glad you went in when you needed to. Thank you for updating us!

Darwin's avatar

Glad you got it looked at. Generally it’s the best thing to do.

janbb's avatar

Glad you went too. Hope you feel better soon.

chelseababyy's avatar

@Bri_L You’re welcome!

@janbb Thanks!!!

I’m in pain but I have meds now :D Hooray!

Bri_L's avatar

@chelseababyy – so do they have to do something? Check it or sample or something? Are you going to be ok?

casheroo's avatar

@Bri_L They don’t do anything for cysts unless they are a certain type, or size. I’m betting she has a blood cyst or a corpus luteum (those are the types I get, and she and I seem to have the same exact symptoms) They usually just give pain killers, and tell you to rest and use heating pads.

Bri_L's avatar

@casheroo – Thanks. I am the type that worries. Sue me.

chelseababyy's avatar

@casheroo @Bri_L I have two cysts. Hemorrhagic cysts. Apparently they’re more likely to rupture than any others. :[ Hopefully they don’t though. I got percocet and have to lay low for a while because they could end up messing me up pretty bad (the cysts that is).

casheroo's avatar

@chelseababyy That’s also known as a blood cyst…and yeah, they freakin’ suck when they rupture :( They gave me the good stuff when I went to the ER with my last rupture. I’m sorry you have to deal with it.

chelseababyy's avatar

@casheroo No worries. Yeah I honestly don’t remember half of what happened last night, I was pretty drugged. I am now as well.. Fingers crossed they don’t rupture. I’m on perc and it still hurts sooo bad.
