I want a good picture veiwer for Mac OSX?

Asked by jaketheripper (2779points) August 13th, 2009

I don’t like iphoto. I would like something like the windows xp picture viewer. Preview works but you cant delete a photo from within the interface
what i need is something close to preview or windows xp’s picture viewer but i must be able to delete pictures from within the interface.

Howto: delete pictures with Preview

Plus some hidden powers, including masking, cropping, as well as PDF content manipulation.

Holy crap! I gotta try me some instant alpha today!

Makes Photoshop’s magic wand tool look plain worthless.

Picassa is pretty awesome. And free

@robmandu – I don’t really think so. that would have worked just as well with the magic wand. unless I am missing something. The sky example?

@robmandu i had no clue at all that preview did all of those things.. wow

now i don’t need to open photoshop as often

@Bri_L, well, what brings a sense of child-like wonder to my perception here is how dead simple the selector is when using the instant alpha tool in Preview. It’s click-and-move-the-mouse-slightly-to-adjust-sensitivity. That’s it.

Compared to Photoshop’s magic wand tool with a separate sensitivity selector widget. That’s click, nope too much. Adjust sensitivity. Click, nope too little. Adjust. Click, errrr, maybe that’s the best? Try again anyway. D’oh! Too much!

And then the fact that you can reverse the instant alpha to restore any area that you may have inadvertently removed. Holy kaw!

In Photoshop, you’d be mucking with layers, masks, saved selections, the history tab… and taking 10 times as long.

No, Preview ain’t Photoshop. I’d never give up PS. But dang if they didn’t simplify that one thing in Preview to a point that almost seems magical.

I agree @robmandu
I’m suprised it isn’t that simple in photoshop.

@robmandu – Ok, see I couldn’t tell the mouse was moving. And, unbeknownst to me my sound was off. So I didn’t realize that was what was happening.

Photoshop does have a wand select tool just like that by the way. If you click and hold on the magic wand tool you can choose the quick selection tool which is the same thing.

BUT, what I really like about what your pointing out is, preview is faster and quicker. Excellent find!!!!
