Should Fluther mod questions about things relating to Fluther if they don't follow the guidelines?

Inspired by this question.
Fluther prides itself on the quality of it’s questions, correct? Then why should this be an exclusion?
Btw, this is not directed at anyone in particular. I think it’s great that people see @Aprilsimnel as such a great contributor that she received so much lurve. I just don’t see why you can’t just as easily comment on her page about it, instead of flooding the airwaves with unhelpful frivolity.

It’s been past practice to welcome all into the 10k club ever since Marina first hit that landmark. I think the mods appreciate this and see it as Fluther tradition.
Hey, @Sampson, thanks for showing me that thread, which I had missed. I was able to add my congratulations.
It seems a little early for you to be critiquing the site’s traditions.
The mods do allow some leeway for Fluther questions, which are an important part of the community of the site.
You’ve been here one day. Perhaps you should learn the culture and practices of the community before you start to critique them.
As @AstroChuck noted, it’s part of the culture here. If you do a search on 10k here, you’ll see it’s not the first time this has happened, nor will it be the last, hopefully.
I don’t think they should mod those questions, if you don’t want to contribute in them then don’t answer. It’s like a tradition here.
And besides, reaching 10k is special.
@Tink1113 It’s more than a “don’t contribute” situation. I check my inbox when I see a notice. I’m not going to learn anything from that, which was the main reason I joined here.
“Special”? It’s just a website…
Rejoice! I’m not going to yell at you!
@Sampson Youre right, you’re not going to learn anything from that.
But can you not spoil what others consider fun?
Its just a website to you others have different opinions.
if it’s just a website, then why bother even complaining?
and @Ivan is simply going to wax poetic about his woes with the mods, and wis.dm and whatnot.
@Tink1113 It’s a very nice website, but nothing else.
Heh, nothing really to elaborate on. The users here are quite proficient at compartmentalizing their attitudes and philosophies. Most Fluther users are quite rational when it comes to every-day topics, but they become super-duper conservative when it comes to Fluther itself. You were getting piled on from all angles (as is common), so I thought I would console you by noting that not everyone on this site instantly hates you.
@eponymoushipster I’m just trying to understand why some questions are ok and some are not, even if they have the same quality.
@Tink1113 I was responding to your bit in the whisper there.
@Ivan Ah, I see. Well thanks.
@Sampson So was I. And just to let you know, I don’t hate you.
@Sampson because it’s at the discretion of the mods. and the 10k “questions” are an exception. if you don’t like it, don’t participate. if you’re bitter about a question of yours being modded, refer to the mods as to why it was modded.
Being new to Fluther, maybe you haven’t seen this happen before or if you have, it’s just not something you are used to seeing. In general the “celebrations” are typical, but the 10k is just a landmark on here and is a tolerated celebration.
I may not agree with you, but it doesn’t mean I hate you. I don’t know you!
[mod says] There are exceptions to most rules. 10K celebrations are one of those exceptions around here, a tradition enjoyed by the majority of our members.
I’d rather see a new guideline that all future “Mod” questions will be kept off the main board and redirected to the mods where they belong.

@evelyns_pet_zebra
Wow, looks like someone had a cord struck. Not too subtle enough, are we?
The poster of this question said nothing about their own questions being modded. That was just something you assumed. Same with the “wis.dm” thing.
@evelyns_pet_zebra @DominicX is exactly correct. I never mentioned anything about being modded myself. That’s one hell of an assumption.
Honestly, you all need to relax. It’s really unnecessary how you jump down anyone’s throat the second they point out the tiniest flaw with the site. (Been there, done that). I know you love this site and want to defend it, but goddamn, some of you behave like rabid dogs. You look like fools and definitely don’t make any newcomers feel welcome. It’s natural for some newcomers to question how things are done around here. Why don’t you try behaving like adults rather than pointing a gun at the heads of people who don’t understand Fluther yet? Calling them “Whiny McFucks”, for example, certainly isn’t remedying the situation.
Some people handled this question perfectly. Others… not so much.
(Been there, done that).
Try three of these Q&A-type sites. Sean and I have been on them all. :) Also, GA.
well excuse me.—-now where did I leave my gun?—
@Samson, that’s okay, I occasionally make mistakes. Comes from being human, ya know. =)

[mod says] Personal attacks are not permitted, and have been removed. Also, please let’s not do the whole wis.dm thing again. Please.
wis.dm? What the hell is that? Never heard of it.
@ALL, I am apologizing for losing it up there, there was no excuse for my behavior and I hve been properly chastised by the mods. forgive me for my rabid dog antics, I think I may need a booster shot. =)
@augustlan what do you mean I have to clean your entire swimming pool with my own toothbrush?
@DominicX that would be chord, as in a musical term, heh heh

@evelyns_pet_zebra
I even Googled it first because I wasn’t sure which one it was, but when I typed in “struck a c-” on Google and “struck a cord” came up, I assumed it was right. :)
Augustlan has a swimming pool? Wow! Pool party at Auggie’s house!
All are welcome, even the newbies. Bring beer. And pancakes. :D
How about beer batter pancakes?
@mammal I’m not mentally challenged, I am we todd did, plain and simple. It surely isn’t that I am too young to know better, as I am nearly 50, so it must be I am we todd did.
AC, will you marry me? ;-)
<——gets out Evelynist bible and robe, ready to perform the ceremony.
<———Is flattered that people are getting married on his thread.
@Sampson that’s why God invented the 6pack, son.
@Sampson that’s breakfast. for lunch, we have cocktails.
<——- Rolls out the mini- bar to poolside and starts chilling the champagne before the ceremony starts.

And once again, after a Fluther question has been adequately answered, we all go off-topic.
By the way, I’m bringing hot dogs

Fellatio? I love that movie. My favorite part is when the Blue Fairy turns him into a real boy.
[mod says] Duplicate post removed. Also, let’s get back on topic.
Take the party to PMs!
My 10k congrats post was deleted. I always wondered why this was, and whether I can get it back or not. To be honest, it made me quite sad seeing mine deleted when all the other ones remain in existence…
@Sampson: Some day, when you’re a grownup jelly, you’ll understand. There are exceptions to most rules in life. I’m surprised you haven’t figured this out yet. Some rules are learned. This is an online community in which we support each other. Even if someone asks a not so clear or non- quality question, we try to help the person rather than just shutting them down. Besides, I’d say the “quality” of those questions are quite high!
@dynamicduo :: I think I remember that. I think it was because two were posted within hours of each other.
@Sampson:Enough answers have appeared for me to mention (yet again) the curious case of the difference between its and it’s. What is’t with the need to hit the apostrophe key?
@augustlan Thanks for removing my duplicate. Everything locked up on me till I stopped following this Q- which oddly I was following twice.
@Dog – my earth was shaken! I couldn’t imagine what you would type that would have to be removed! I figured maybe you had an accident in the text field.
Yes @Dog is a saint, a Saint Bernard :)
@ubersiren Well… That was thoroughly condescending. And ironically, unhelpful. There were quite a few comments on this question that were the opposite of ‘supportive’.
@gailcalled Did I make a typo? Well, nobody’s perfect.
@ubersiren I’m with Sampson, this was a very condescending reply. “An online community in which we support each other?” More like, an online community where certain “grownup jellies” (do you really refer to yourselves as jellyfish? sad…) support each other and ignore everyone else who hasn’t been here for years. There’s a strong sense of elitism among some users here. I think it needs to be toned down, starting with more civil treatment of new users.
[removed by me. No one else!]
@Sampson : I’m not supportive of someone infiltrating our camp and opening battle. I would be supportive if you came in peace and wanted to smoke some doob.
@ubersiren What the hell? This is what I don’t understand. How is Sampson “infiltrating your camp” and “opening battle?” By posting one innocent, polite question about rules/moderation, suddenly he’s doing the internet equivalent of burning down your village and raping its women? Lmao. The ridiculousness centered around this topic never ceases to amaze me. You, and others who think like you, seriously need to let your guard down a little bit and stop viewing anyone who begins a discussion about the website’s policies as the Superdevil.

Zomg, is that Sampson on the right?
My sense of humor is getting discombobulated.
@le_inferno : It was a joke, I didn’t mean to compare it to him destroying our community. I simply meant that he’s only been here like a day and a half and he’s already criticizing without knowing our customs. That one question he asked has been his first and only question. It would’ve been nicer if he was around a bit before he began challenging the “quality” of questions used as part of our tradition here. That’s all I meant. From the sound of it, you may need to kick your shoes off and join us in smokum peace pipe. :)
By the way, I haven’t been here for years, only like 5 months or something. But, I let the mods do their jobs and generally don’t complain about procedure. By all means ask questions, but it’s not really fair to come in right off the bat and stir up dust.
It’s kind of like getting pissed at the lady sitting 3 feet away with her back to you for not passing the salt in the cafeteria at work on the first day. Making a comment on it. Then finding out she is legally deaf.
@ubersiren ? Didn’t quite seem like a joke to me.
Is it really that offensive to you that someone new has a minor critique about the site? In fact, those are probably the best kinds of criticism, because it’s from a more objective point of view. What does it matter how long he’s been here? He noticed something that deviated from the rules, and asked about it. Simple. There’s no reason to get up in arms and accuse him of ignorance. I really don’t see how his length of time here strips him of the right to criticize something. If you walk into a restaurant and get annoyed at the slow service, you’re gonna criticize the restaurant. To argue, “Oh, this is only your first time here, you don’t know how we work! Oh, but you haven’t even tried the food yet, how can you not like this place?” is totally irrelevant. The slow service deviated from your expectations, so you make a comment about it.
You can go back to smoking pot now or whatever other intelligent ways you spend your time not alienating newcomers.
[mod says] Listen to AC. Flame off, folks.
Dang I missed a perfectly good time to say: Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!
Response moderated
i wish i could figure out how in the world @ubersiren was ‘alienating newcomers’...?
anyway, i totally understand the question, and i think a lot of people have been too easily offended by it. to any new jelly, it would seem pretty strange that questions which would normally be modded at the least are frequent and well-populated. it is a tradition, and a nice one at that, so i think it’s nice that the rules have been bent. if you stick around, perhaps you’ll grow fond of seeing the occasional ~wild and crazy 10k party. (:
