Well, would you?

There’s got to be at least one Sealab fan out there…

I think I’d rather take my chances with a new robot brain.

I know nothing about Sealab but yes, I would put my brain into a robotic body if my organic one became too compromised.

We better not have to live on a reservation. That would really chap my caboose!

Plus, Robots are dangerous!

AstroChuck's avatar

Would this robot body have certain enhancements perhaps? I’m tired of my six year-old one.

Without a doubt, yes. I fear my own mortality.

Frankly, I think that if it were possible to put a biological brain inside a mechanical “body” that the person would go insane. None of the inputs and senses would make sense to the brain. The brain would be used to feeling a body, and the way the body provides information. At least some of the thinking goes on inside the body.

To have part of your brain replaced by something digital, that might not even be able to learn would drive anyone crazy. Even if you could translate digital signals into signals that might fool the nervous system into believing a body was still there, I don’t think it would work. Too many nerves. Too much processing power would be needed (even with a quantum computer, you might not have enough power).

Sorry. I know this question is about fantasy, not reality, but I couldn’t help but think of the technological and personal problems that would have to be solved for this to work.

brain runs off small electric pulses doesnt it….? i believe its chemical electricity, but im sure it can be replicated if given enough time and research….

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities Check my first response…. excuse me, i have to talk to a man about some butter…. hes lucky i dont blow him out the air lock…

I don’t think the robot would want my brain…

marinelife's avatar

If it was only chance at continued life I might.

Russter's avatar

depends on the robot body… are we talking Optimus Prime or R2D2?

PerryDolia's avatar

No way. I am having too much fun with this brain in this body.

As long as my robot penis is vagina compatable

AstroChuck's avatar

BluRhino's avatar

I’d ask the manufacturer give her an extra “daddy” rivet.

“Nails are like candy to robots. And we’ll eat tires instead of licorice.”
“No we won’t.”
“Maybe you won’t!”

I just watched the full episode and nearly peed myself. Enjoy.

I’d be like one of the Blade Runner replicants, except I’d not die.

AstroChuck's avatar

There go my nipples again.

Bugabear's avatar

Assuming of course I’d still be able to keep all my memories and senses, then yes \i would definitely do that. As for what robot, Id go for either the new ironman kinda thing or the Mecha from District 9. The one with the built in gravity gun.

Grisaille's avatar

Disregards Sealab reference

Transhumanism? Oh, hell yeah.

If a mechanical body (or even housing, where I would be linked up to a vast informational resource) meant that I’d be able to live, think and learn for an extended period of time (say 100 years longer than I’d normally live), of COURSE.

In an instant.

Hell, I’d be the first test patient if such a technology arose.

Disc2021's avatar

@bugabear The Mecha from District 9, hands down.

Disc2021's avatar

@daloon IF it were possible though, would you??

If I still looked the same, and if one of the functions of my body was Teleportation – I would do it. Or if I had a jet-pack that allowed me to travel at warp-speed and contract back inside of me when I was done with it.

Having a gravity gun contracted under one arm and a rail or gauss gun under the other would be awesome. If my robot penis was fully functional – that would be cool too. Hmm.

kibaxcheza's avatar

yall really are slackin on this one…..

“how are you hanging up there?”
“I dug my toes into the ceiling”
“THATS PURE TITANIUM”
”......I could kill a man….. with my toes”

wundayatta's avatar

IF it were possible, would I be master of the universe? Not on your life.

IF it were possible, would I have a harem of every beautiful, intelligent and charming woman in the world? You betcha.

Would I be an autobot? You’ve got to be kidding!

mattbrowne's avatar

If my body fails completely I might consider it. Depends on the robot’s capabilities.

kibaxcheza's avatar

But theyd be limited to 5 ft tall
Aidios mio!?!?!? 5 Feet?
yeah but youd have the strength of 5 men
I have that now….
5 men? try 5 gorillas
the strength of 5 gorillas? But why so short?

AstroChuck's avatar

@mattbrowne- Have you ever read Mindscan by Robert J. Sawyer? It deals with this very topic and is a great read.

wundayatta's avatar

Ray Kurzweil thinks this will happen within the next 20 years. Computers will be so small, there will be one in every blood cell, he says (if I remember the interview I heard over the weekend, correctly).

mattbrowne's avatar

@AstroChuck – Yes, I did and I enjoyed it too. Interesting potential impact on inheritance law!

Bugabear's avatar

Why would you need a penis? You can just tell your body to produce those signals and send them to your brain. And you’d probably have an internet connection built into the back of you brain so that takes care of the other stuff.
