Disclaimer: I’m from NE Ohio, but not currently living there.

I love the Indians stadium. Went to the very first game there. Even though we were Mariners fans, people were really nice.

The people are friendly.

It’s the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I have no thoughts on Cleveland.

Shaker Heights has some of the most enormous and pretentious private domiciles I have ever seen. Each one could house a village.

The area where Case-Western Uni is, University Circle. is crawling with museums, gardens, parks, hospitals, the Cleveland Orchestra, etc and is gorgeous.

Then there is Lake Erie and the shorelines.

Underrated President.

I’ve never been. Should I go? All I know about Ohio is Kent State and that the Cuyahoga was on fire for a long time. Oh, and that my friend A is from Cleveland, but she never talks much about it.

I thought this was about the new show about Cleveland from Family Guy , man i can’t wait for that to start over here Scotland.

@jeffpetersen has the right answer! I lived in Shaker Heights for many years, and loved it. The square is beautiful at Christmas when it’s all lit up.

I grew up 20 minutes south of Cleveland, and thought it was a great place to live. We had a summer cottage in Madison and spent all our summer days on our private beach on Lake Erie. I have extremely fond memories of those days.

All I can add is that if Mr. Snark himself (Anthony Bourdain) confesses enthusiastically that he likes Cleveland that says a lot.

If you’re here during hockey season and like the sport, try to get to a Lake Erie Monsters game. Pretty decent prices and they do some decent promo stuff. And you can generally get a great seat. Tougher to get seats to a Cavs game, but still a fun time.

Gailcalled mentioned University Circle, which is a real gem. If you can only do one thing, I suggest the Cleveland Museum of Art You can easily spend a whole day there and that’s with some areas still under renovation.

I also loved going to the Museum of Natural History. And don’t forget the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

After all, Cleveland is the home of rock and roll!

If you get a chance, check out Stan Hewitt Hall :.. in Akron, about an hour south of Cleveland.

If you need some really good food try Michael Symon’s places. He is the most recent Iron Chef, but he also used to have another show on FN where he went back to his immigrant roots. He does really great comfort food and is a self-professed pork-aholic. So, unless you’re a vegetarian you will most likely enjoy some mighty fine eats.

Yes, if you can get into Lola or Lolita, you will get outstanding food. He also just opened a bar in Avon Lake, Bar Symon.

@scamp – Yes, the Natural History is terrific! i’ve yet to make it to Stan Hywet, but someday… someday. I’ve not gone to the Rock Hall yet. I keep hearing that it’s overrated. I need to just suck it up and go! Oh, the science museum is good, too. Although it’s much like most science museums, so it wouldn’t be my first stop. Well, except for the IMAX theatre, which I love.

For football fans, there’s the Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Straight down I-77, through Akron and on into Canton. Football Hall of Fame

@tedibear39 I went to the Museum of natural history many years ago when I lived in the area and I loved it. Stan Hewit is a wonderful way to spend a day. I was very impressed!! I haven’t seen the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because it was built after I moved away, but I’d love to go one day.

I have been there twice. Both times the weather was crappy. The city just seemed dirty to me and it had little appeal.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was pretty neat though!

But the Browns suck ;)

I’ve been to the Cleveland Clinic a number of times and it is a pretty nice place. We stopped at a convenience store and all the stuff was on the other side of a great thick glass. I had to tell the woman what I wanted, she rung it up perceived my wonder, and said ‘you’re not from around here are you?’ I guess it was a pretty tough neighborhood. Never been there at night though.

@majorrich – reijinni is right. The neighborhood around the Clinic is not where you want to hang out. I used to teach school not far from there and it was not safe.

Maybe it’s because I grew up in Northeast Ohio, outside Cleveland, but the city is really awful. There are a few gems, but as for downtown? It’s not a fun place. I hated riding the Rapid to have lunch with my dad, who worked in the library on Superior Ave. Shaker Heights =/= Cleveland; it’s waaayyyyy too nice. Plus, Paul Newman is from there. But anyone going to Cleveland should eat at Slyman’s Deli on the corner of St. Clair and E. 31st!

@SheWasAll_ Oh how I miss Slyman’s. I worked at 31st and Payne for 3 or 4 years and once a month the boss would treat us to Slyman’s. Drooling on my keyboard for corned beef.
