What should I buy my parents for their 25th anniversary?

Asked by running4ever5 (118points) August 14th, 2009

Me and my sis plan on spending between $500 – $750 on our parents. We are a very close family and can’t decide on what to get them. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

We need specific likes, dislikes, hobbies, lifestye, etc…It’s all in the details.

Well, there are some great hotel deals now. A romantic weekend getaway?

Sex toys are always welcome.

Please ignore my husband and his smart alack comments.
That’s him above. Astrochuck.

Aw, that’s so sweet! I second @Marina on the getaway. For that much you can be creative and come up with an awesome time for them. Welcome to Fluther, @running4ever5.

@Parrothead, really? You’re mrs @AstroChuck?
Did you know you were married to a legend?

AstroChuck's avatar

@Parrothead- Aren’t you supposed to be in the kitchen?

My 25th anniversary is this week. If you are one of my kids, just give us the money.

A legend in his own mind. Don’t feed him.

Everyone, play along. I hear @AstroChuck has a multiple personality disorder.

Welcome to Fluther, @Parrothead! We hope to be seeing you around quite often!

Parrothead isn’t new. I mean that in both date of membership and her age. Just ignore her. She’ll be gone soon enough. I’ll see to that.

@ubersiren Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see why someone outside of the milestone (i.e. a couple having an anniversary) should get the people within the milestone a gift? I really don’t mean to hijack your question, but this has always bothered me

@Parrothead, but he is soon to hit the never before seen 20K! Next stop, Nirvana!!!

AstroChuck's avatar

@Judi- I find it humorous that @ubersiren and @YARNLADY think that @Parrothead isn’t really my wife but is just li’l ol’ me instead. She comes on to Fluther every blue moon or so. Unlike me she doesn’t waste all her spare time on this site as does her stupid husband.

@Astrochuck married… mmmm suggest you buy the twister bedclothes for the marital bed then! ...Back to the question…25 years is Silver right? What about a family portrait as suggested above in a nice silver frame?

galileogirl's avatar

Supposing you are in your early 20’s and just starting to build up your own assets, they probably won’t want you to buy a nice gift. If you have siblings you might do a joint gift. You might try a theme. When my dad turned 50 we got him trees, shoe trees, front hall coat tree, apple and apricot trees for the yard.

How about a professional photo, all the kids or one of your parents. Or a really heartfelt letter presented as a work of art.

I think it is great that you want to give your folks a nice gift. I am all for experiences rather than things – a weekend at a B&B or theater tickets and dinner out – something you know will be special for them. You’re good kids!

@parrothead – We love Astrorchuck but how can you stand him 24/7?

Historically, the 25th Anniversary is the Silver Anniversary; how about what my younger sister & I did for our parents? We bought matching, single-band, rings and had “forever” engraved on the outside and then both their names, my name, & my sister’s name inside.

Oh, the were silver, BTW, LOL!
