Would Jack Bauer make a good president?

Asked by w2pow2 (490points) August 15th, 2009

Jack Bauer, PROBABLY a republican who doesn’t mind beating the ever-living snot out of terrorists. Would he make a good president?

I can imagine it now:
“Where are you taking this terrorist?”
“This terrorist is being transferred to the president’s office for interrogation.”

ragingloli's avatar

no.
he would start wars left and right for every little thing

w2pow2's avatar

Ahhhh but in the television show, 24, he goes to great lengths to AVOID wars.
BOOYA!!
WHAT NOW!?!

Ivan's avatar

He also goes to great lengths to kill lots of people and torture others.

Sorry… got a little carried away there… I hope to appear more civilized in the future.

w2pow2's avatar

But if he didn’t then…
1) America would have been nuked twice
2) The president would have been assassinated… TWICE
3) America would have gone to war with innocent countries
All according to the television show of course.

And he never kills anyone that’s innocent unless it’s necessary to save other innocent lives.

Well, he’d have a limo and driver, so no more DUIs

ragingloli's avatar

he strikes me as a ruthless cowboy.
to me he is just as much of a villain as others.

I would love to hear him whisper the State of the Union though..

w2pow2's avatar

I would just like a president that has a strong stance on terrorism and is not afraid to do WHATEVER is necessary to save innocents.

Bluefreedom's avatar

No, he probably wouldn’t. He is too violent and impetuous.

Ivan's avatar

I would like a president who knows how to do all of the other things that presidents need to do as well.

ragingloli's avatar

i don’t want anyone in a position of power who sees violence as the first choice and not as a last resort.

TheCreative's avatar

He wouldn’t be able to since he’s Canadian I think.

Mamradpivo's avatar

No. Remember the last time
we elected an actor to be President? Never again.

AstroChuck's avatar

No. Fictitious characters generally make poor world leaders in the real world.
Besides, he works for FOX.

marinelife's avatar

He’s an actor, not a leader.

As much as I love the show 24, Bauer as President wouldn’t be a prudent choice at all. His stance on certain situations scares me, like his belief that there is no such thing as going too far to save innocent people (even if means killing other innocent people).

Perhaps the scarier thing to consider is that so many people approve of his methods.

galileogirl's avatar

@AstroChuck But he would have been a better VP than Cheyney and we have had fictional VP’s before,

w2pow2's avatar

@Drdoombot pop quiz. You’re forced to make a decision that will either
A) Cost 19 lives
OR
B) Cost 20 lives
And lack of a decision will cost 39 lives.
Which do you chose?

The fictional character Jack Bauer is not just entertaining; he’s a political opinion.
And to all those people who disagree with that statement… Let me put it in a way you MIGHT understand:
A Christmas Carol
Lysistrata
Watchmen (A more modern example)
Urinetown
24
(This list could go on and on and on. If you don’t know what ANY of these are, wiki it.)
I can say with confidence that pretty much EVERY piece of literature has at least some level of a political opinion. Some, like the ones mentioned above are blatantly and obviously political. So when you say “Oh well he can’t be president cause he’s not real.”
I know the character itself is not real but the IDEA is very much so.

considers the political opinion of pat the bunny

EXCEPT for pat the bunny.
