Can anyone tell me what these letters stand for?
We are looking at purchasing a dog. On the website beside the breed of dog it will either say : CKC, AKC, APRI, etc. Does that have anything to do with the breed? what does it stand for?

CKC = Canadian Kennel Club
AKC = American Kennel Club
APRI = American’s Pet Registry, Inc.
It’s where the dog is registered. I’d research where you’d want your dog registered.
Edit…what Yetanotheruser said.
The AKC registry is the best because the parents and grandparents had to be registered as purebred.and meeting breed standards
I have seen other registries listed in ads for dogs like cockapoos which is a total scam. There are no breed standards for crossbred or hybrid dogs aka mutts. It is all money of course. Offspring of AKC show grade parents are sold for 5 figures. When a hybrid is listed as another registry they will try and sell it for thousands when it really is worth no more than a pound puppy
I disagree with @galileogirl about the value of AKC. As an organization, it has singlehandedly ruined many breeds by breeding for superficial attributes of show ring beauty as the expense of health.
European breeding standards are much higher.
It is still the only reputable registry in the US, If you don’t like the American standards either don’t deal in those breeds or buy European.
CKC registers some of the breeds and newer half-breeds that AKC doesn’t recognize.
