Looking for a Mac Note app?

Asked by DeanV (14216points) August 16th, 2009

I recently decided that it was about time to change the app I use to keep little clipping type notes for school, or little pictures or links because it hasn’t been updated in ages. That, and I never really liked it anyway.

But anyway, now I’m looking for a little information grabber type notepad app for somewhat heavy use. Preferably unobtrusive.

So all you Mactards out there, any suggestions? Running 10.5 Leopard on an Intel Machine, if that makes any difference.

For the record, the app I was using was Yojimbo. I’m looking for something similar, at least.

Evernote

you can store notes, clippings, pictures, video or even audio notes. it’s accessible via an app, iphone/bb app, web front, etc.

I don’t use it personally but this seems like a great pitch for Evernote.
@eponymoushipster Beat me to it. :)

Also, for simple screen grabbinng, I’m a big fan of Skitch.

@ben sorry dude. i thought the same thing as you…seems like it’s a perfect fit for what he wants. :)

I don’t recall @ben as a Mac user.

Evernote is for both Mac and Pc as well as an iphone app.

Plus whatever you enter by one device gets synced via the web to all.

Plus it’s free. What more could one want? I love it.

ReQall is another option. I have it, but haven’t trained myself to use it consistently!

Circusponies Notebook; EagleFiler; DevonThink; Dropbox. I’m on my iPhone so I can’t include links, but all of those are excellent programs. DevonThink Pro is very robust; eagleFiler is great too. If you want something simpler that sits in your menubar Dropbox might be perfect. I’ve used all of these programs and they all have their pros and cons. Circus Ponies notebook is more visual if you like things patterned on a real notebook.

John Gruber is not a fan of Evernote. He prefers Simplenote.

I personally was using Google Notebook for a little while… until they stopped supporting it. I switched briefly to Evernote (especially since it can import directly from Google Notebook).

But then I dropped Evernote in favor of Microsoft OneNote since the bulk of my work is on Windows and I rarely ever need share my note clippings with my home platform (Mac).

Thanks for all the answers. I’m not a big fan of Evernote because I don’t have an iPhone, nor do I really have the need to sync between computers. That, and I have difficulty blocking out ads in a program like that. It makes schoolwork kinda difficult.

@suzyq2463 Good suggestions. I use Notebook for keeping notes during lectures, and I’ve tried it for various clipping methods, but always ended up losing things in it. I also use dropbox and love it, it’s just not quite what I’m looking for. I think I’ll take a look at eaglefiler.

Anybody had any experience with Together, Journler or SOHO Notes?
