We’re picking up a friend at 1:30am tonight/tom morning, and we would like to be waiting at the baggage claim, but don’t want to have to pay to park. Does anyone know a good way to do this? Detroit Metro Airport.

If it’s possible, go by train or subway.
That way you avoid the parking costs and you can have a relaxed talk with your friend.
i will pay for the parking pat.
edit: I didn’t know there was short term parking, I thought it was only like per day/week.

this site is useless, which terminal do I want? I dont know. I just want to park for <1 Hour to get my friend? The phone number is equally useless. Has anyone done this at detroit metro before?
I would say, “Hey baby, you come here often?” or “I have a VIP pass for the Captain’s Lounge.”
Another idea is to go to one of the many terminal area bars and get someone really sloshed so they miss their plane. Then you get to spend more time with them.
I never went to that airport, but recently I had to pick up people at LaGuardia.
I didn’t need to know which terminal. I went to “Arrivals” for the airline they were on. When they landed, they called me on their cell phone. I told them where I was in my car (at the curb) and they found me.
If you don’t know how long the trip will be, maybe you want a practice run beforehand.
Airports have some of the best signage around. Enter the airport road. Follow the signs to the short-term parking.
Just make sure to keep within the 30 minutes.
I’ve been picked up from that airport a few times, all pre-9/11, so my family was able to meet me inside the baggage claim. The parking they have (I believe) is short term for the people picking up friends, so I wouldn’t worry about it costing anything…honestly, I can’t think of an airport that you have to do that at. Not in the Philly airports, or Texas major ones (I’ve been to them all) those are the ones off the top of my head. Just follow the signs.
Or you could do as my father does: wait for them at the departures.
Where i live you can park there (be it officially just for the time you deliver your family to the departure-hall), but not so at arrivals.

It’s by airline. Check here:

Most flights are in/out of McNamara, the big new terminal.
North is the old terminal (which is pretty cool, it’s like flying into a much smaller airport with shorter lines).
As Marina wrote, the signs are big and clear. Just look for “Short term parking”.
$3/30 minutes, $5/60 minutes.
If you must avoid the parking fee, I would park at one of the surrounding hotels. Then wait for your traveler to call and say, “I’m on the ground”.
But first swing through the airport and see how the waiting area is labeled. I think Mcnamara has labels “1” thru “7” outside the luggage claim (it’s been a few years). Then you can tell your friend “meet me at the curb by #4”.
thanks all!
it ended up being in the North terminal, we accidentally ended up in some $11/day lot but the lady let us out without making us pay.
What a fiasco.
