OxiClean left my carpet full of chalky residue! HELP!

Asked by iviesmom (1points) August 17th, 2009

So I was searching the net trying to find a way to clean the high traffic areas of my carpet that had been looking really dirty without having to rent a machine or pay someone. I read that OxiClean worked really well for carpet. I mixed it up according to the directions on the box and used a rag to scrub the dirty areas. It came up beautiful. BUT,,, the next morning when it was dry I noticed a chalky residue. I figured it would vacuum out. I filled the vacuum twice with chalk and accually clogged it. So I grabbed my shop vac and used it. I can’t seem to get the chalk out no matter what I do. I have a shampooer that I borrowed but I’m afraid to use it cause I don’t want to clog it too. Should I try to rinse it or keep vacuuming? What do I do? The carpet where I cleaned is like 4 shades lighter than the rest of the rug and all full of chalk. HELP!

The web site (www.oxiclean.com) is of no help. See whether there is an 800 number on the container.

that’s Billy May’s revenge…

I’ve heard this can happen if you don’t mix enough water with the OxiClean…unfortunately I can’t offer any advice as to how to remedy the situation. I would follow Gail’s advice and contact their customer service line at 1.800.781.7529

Quick! Somebody call Billy Mays!
Oh yeah. Oh well. At least now you know what that chalky residue is and that you could get about $100 a gram for it.

This has happened to me with my laundry from time to time. Whenever it does, I just put the washer through another cycle without Oxiclean (before drying the clothes). They come out fine then, so I’d guess you could rinse the areas and use the shop vac to suck up both the water and the chalk (if your shop vac, like mine, handles water).

Yeah, @augustlan is right. You could also try quick-shampooing you carpet with a rented shampooer?

@teh_kvlt_liberal Right, the white powder is cocaine!
