I’ll join anything the Fluther is a part of.

sandystrachan's avatar

@AstroChuck Same here i just thought fluther would be a great contributor to this. Am just waiting for fluther brand condoms and deodorant to come out :)

AstroChuck's avatar

edit: i meant ”that Fluther is a part of.”
Blame it on sleep depravation as it“s a little past 4am here and I’ve yet to doze.

@AstroChuck I like “the Fluther” better ;-)

Anyway, I like World Community Grid‘s projects better, maybe anyone cares to create a Fluther group over there. (I’m already part of another group, though.)

AstroChuck's avatar

@Vincentt- Yeah but The Fluther sounds so pretentious.

Vincentt's avatar

@AstroChuck Fluther has the right to be pretentious, right? ;-)

I have my pc set to fold whenever it goes idle for 5 minutes or more. If a fluther group starts, I’ll join it.

For people wondering what downloading and being a part of this group entails, I’ll paste a section from the site: “Folding@home is a distributed computing project—people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer takes the project closer to our goals. Folding@home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.”

It’s for SCIENCE!!!! and medicine

I was doing F@H there for a while; but when I upgraded to an Intel iMac, they didn’t have the program available, and I have since forgotten about it.
Thanks for reminding me!

NaturalMineralWater's avatar

I would join. I did it for a while before castlecops.com went under.

Count me in; although, I don’t know what a folding@home group is….

ShanEnri's avatar

Looks like a great idea! I would do it.

sandystrachan's avatar

@cyndihugs Fluther sets up a team , posts the team code . We all download and install the folding@home set it up , when your computer goes idle it does some good. Granted your first time could take many hours but you have two days to do it. or something along those lines
I am folding on the ps3 and will fold on the pc also , i guess someone could just set up a fluther team with bendrews permission unless they wanted to start it

eambos's avatar

I made us a group!

We are team 169922. Just put that into your folding client, and you will contribute to the Fluther Folding Team!

Here’s our team page!

sandystrachan's avatar

I am 33% already :)
And my folding console is named the same as everything else sandystrachan :)

eambos's avatar

I think I’m at around 6%. Wow, PS3’s are good at folding.

sandystrachan's avatar

@eambos You using a ps3 like ? So is this an official folding team, with full permission to use fluther.com from the leaders ?

eambos's avatar

I’m on a PC. What I was saying is that I’m only at 6% and you’re already at 33%

I haven’t gotten explicit permission, but Im sending an email to Ben and Andrew, and the team page has a linkback to the site. It isn’t yet, but I expect that it will be the official team.

Join up! =)

sandystrachan's avatar

@eambos Good enough for me , i joined as soon as i seen it was made :) i tend to be like that when it comes to fluther things ahaha .
Hopefully more join the team :)

sandystrachan's avatar

50— 60 % it says i will have my first cycle done in a couple hours .
@eambos I just clicked the fast teampage url and it is 404 , does that matter ?

eambos's avatar

The teampage url works for me, but the “fast team page” whatever that is 404s for me too.

I’m now at about 55% with 4 hours to go. Not too bad, I guess. I’m using the high performance GPU client, rather than the standard cpu one.

sandystrachan's avatar

Completed one at 21:19 GMT go fluther :) i will continue to do them when not using the ps3

eambos's avatar

I completed one, but it didn’t credit me :(

Odd…

tinyfaery's avatar

I don’t get it. WTF?

NaturalMineralWater's avatar

@tinyfaery To join the team first go to the folding at home website and download the software.

When you run the program for the first time it will ask you for a team number.. enter 169922 .. choose a username.. then if you want you can set some advanced options. Then viola.. you will be folding@home. The home page of folding@home describes the who, what, where, why and when of the program.

ShanEnri's avatar

I’m on but have no clue what’s going on or what to do.

ShanEnri's avatar

Forgot to download it sorry! I’ll get on tomorrow!

eambos's avatar

Just a note: Unless you’ve got a great computer, don’t run the folding client while you’re using it. It uses all of your resources, and can slow computers down. Run it when you leave your computer or are just doing basic tasks like typing.

tinyfaery's avatar

What is folding and why do I want to do it?

sandystrachan's avatar

@tinyfaery If you read the link i provided it is all explained there .

Vincentt's avatar

@eambos Can’t you just run it in the background where it will decide for itself whether you’re using the computer or not? At least that’s how it works with World Community Grid.

sandystrachan's avatar

@Vincentt I can’t comment for computer users but, on the ps3 it only kicks in when in idle for a set amount of minutes . I would have thought this was in the options section for computers .

sandystrachan's avatar

I have just set it up on the pc , waiting for it to dl the core . Shame i couldn’t use same name on ps3 as pc . It must adjust itself to your computer , the ps3 count is higher than the pc . This pc is accepting 1500 the ps3 was about 30000000 or something like that .
