Who is the G-Man?

I’m referring to the mysterious character in the Half-Life series of video games.
My guess is that he’s a member of a species so advanced that they are able to play around with the universe (e.g. Move across huge distances, slow down the perception of time for people, telepathy, etc.). I think that its (even more powerful) employers assigned him the task of luring the Combine empire to Earth in order to fight them there.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic Hell yes, for me the worst is the eyes. So obviously non-human

Seems he has multiple psychic abilities, teleportation/ warping of some sort , possible technopathy (he shows up on a tv that’s unplugged towards the end of the game). He also seems to be able to halt aging and place people into suspended animation. Reference is made to Gordon’s lack of aging and the amount of time that has passed.
