Is it considered inappropriate to dress nicer than your boss?

I like to dress well to work, with clean-pressed shirts, nice trousers, and a jacket (I’m female), even though my job is business casual. Nice jeans and blouses are the norm. But I like to be a little more polished. I would say my outfit is one that an executive would wear. Would it be considered inappropriate to dress like you’re your boss’ superior?
