Have you read the House bill for healthcare reform?

Asked by robmandu (21331points) August 19th, 2009

H.R. 3200 “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009” is online.

Those of you opposed to the idea of government-sponsored access to universal healthcare, your assignment is to describe one significant (not silly or trivial) thing in this bill that you agree with.

Those of you who fully support this bill, your assignment is to find and describe one significant (not silly or trivial) thing in this bill that you disagree with.

I’ve heard it said that a person will often change his stance on a given subject if assigned to debate and defend the merits of the opposition. I doubt that will happen here, but it still could be a fun exercise.

I’ve not been following this as closely as I should, so please forgive my question if it sounds ignorant. Isn’t there more than one version of this bill going around right now?

I don’t have time to participate right now, but I do want to point out that this is not the final version of the bill. There is a rather different health care reform bill in the Senate right now — we are still many meetings away from a finalized bill.

@tedibear39 and @lefteh, yes indeed! But we gotta start somewhere.

Yes, we sure do. Love this question. I’ll have time to participate later.

I have bookmarked the link, I will read it when I have more time. Then I’ll get back to you. GQ, by the way.

I haven’t read it yet. ~I think it’ll provide me with hours of casual reading~

But seriously, professor @robmandu GQ! and it is a good motivation for those of us who have meant to read it for a long time. For those of you who prefer, here is a link to the PDF Version. I will return to this classroom after I study the assigned resources.
