I have a heat rash on my legs and feet and it’s driving me up a wall! It itches and itches, I have to fold my legs under me to keep from scratching them. I google’d for heat rash, but could only find out what NOT to do. It said not to use ointments or creams because it could only worsen it…great. I just used alot of itch cream on it.
Does anyone know of some home remedies, or at least something other than ointments that could ease the constant itching?

My mom always used talcum powder or alcohol. The alcohol burns like shit. I don’t remember if the powder worked. Can’t hurt to try though!
I was actually just reading this. Some info there might help. And the question was just posted so more answers will roll in.
Aveeno or some other oatmeal bath. Expensive, but efficient.
Ah thanks.
I’m gonna try some Goldbond that someone suggested in @johnpowell‘s link, then the Aveeno if it doesn’t work. Alcohol is going to have to be used as a last resort…what do you mean it can’t hurt to try? It sounds painful!! =P
I would soak in a cool tub…you might even be able to just soak a hand towel in cool water and apply to the area if taking a bath isn’t practical.
No offense to Gail, but if you use talc to treat a rash for a few days I wouldn’t worry that much. Talcum daily for years might be a concern. BUT, I do not understand how talc would make heat rash feel better? If it really helps I would be curious about that. I agree that talc fills pours, I would not want to put something like that on a rash, I would rather put aloe or some other gel. You might try topical Bendryl spray which works very well for itch and pain.
@JLeslie: We cancer survivors are scrupulous about everything, probably obsessively so. But who can blame us? (I think of Cak as I write.)
@gailcalled I did not know you were a cancer survivor, and I certainly value your opinion, the information your provided, and the experience you have been through. I too think of Cak quite often over the last couple of days when I first learned of her upcoming surgery. I was just saying that for temporary relief I would not be terrified of something being “bad” for me, unless it is something plainly obvious like overexposure to radiation, which by the way I avoid xrays when I can. A man who was a client of mine in the past, who I believe to be brilliant, owns a “pesticide” company in FL, and his company only has natural solutions for pest control for agriculture. He told me NEVER eat a chilean grape. I believe him that they use poison on those grapes, but if I am at a party with grapes I do not worry that I might ingest a few grapes from Chile now and then, I just do not buy them regularly for my home. That is all I am saying, moderation.
@JLeslie: I also used to think “moderation” but when I learned about the amounts of toxic chemicals in everyone’s bodies and in all the air and water on the planet, I have become much more careful.
Here are the twelve most heavily sprayed produce items. They will sneak up on you.
And there’s the issue of farmed salmon. Read it and weep.
Or call me “cranky pants,” if you wish.
@gailcalled Thank you for the links. I don’t think you are “cranky pants” :) I am glad to have the list you provided of the produce items. I could not get the link to open about the salmon, but I only buy wild caught fish anyway, because I believe farmed fish is a bad thing, and my mother has forbid me to buy fish from China. Having said all of that I still eat out at restaurants, and who knows what they are using, unless they state they only use organic products, and in Memphis that ain’t easy to find. I AGREE that we are being poisoned over time, you don’t have to convince me. I wrote a while ago how I found it interesting that a doctor who worked in primitive areas of Africa never sees any allergy cases among the people. Some argued that in those areas those people die and the “gene” dies out. But, that would only be severe allergy that caused asthma and anaphelatic response, this doctor was saying they just really don’t see allergies. I think that has something to do with either toxins in the environment or maybe something viral/bacterial that we are unaware of. I’m with you :) you don’t have to convince me of the carcinagenic dangers out there.
