Are there any decent free document control programs out there?
My company just paid (in my opinion) a ridiculous sum of money for document control software that crashes constantly and is devoid of features. Just out of curiosity, is there any free solution for this type of program out there?

Don’t know about that, but the trouble with free SW in a professional environment is that you don’t get guaranteed support or updates to remain compatible with the latest HW and SW. We used a free Linux for one of our products for some time, but were forced to switch to a paid distribution because of driver update problems.
I think that’s the main reason why companies pay a lot of money for functions that, in theory, are available for free.
@johnpowell I thought Subversion was for code control? I need something more along the lines of documentation and CAD drawing revision control.
Will you reveal which software you’re using currently? I really can’t point you to a free program, but will fully back @LucG‘s response about the need for support.
If you let me know which program you’re using, I might be able to give you suggestions on how to make the program work well for your particular needs (Records Management/Document Control is my field).
@LC_Beta We are using a program called DvTDM by a company called Practical Programs (http://www.practicalprograms.com/). It seems to be just riddled with bugs and broken features, but maybe I’m totally missing something. Have you heard of it?
I don’t know anything for CAD drawing revision control but I often write essays and stuff with my friends through google docs. It makes it so easy to collaborate.
