Try a product called Goo-Gone.
There is some stuff specifically made for that – I can’t find my little spray bottle right now, but I think it’s called Goo Gone
Sometimes nail-polish remover (acetone?) works. Just don’t breathe the fumes.

Stop confusing me.
Whatever you’re going to use, be carefull not to damage your lamp.
Try it out (be it liquid, Goo Gone, etc.) on a a piece which isn’t directly visible.
You can also try denatured alcohol. It removes gummy sticker residue on non-porus surfaces, nicely.
Windex, nail polish remover, even rubbing alcohol works.
I’ve seen goo-gone work some miracles, but be sure to wear a gas mask using it… that stuff is absolutely noxious…
i used some ronson lighter fluide that i have for my antique zippo. thanks for all your help though.
WD-40 Should have it around the house already!
It works for SOOOO many things….
Hot water and plastic “steel” wool work for me.
