Try a product called Goo-Gone.

There is some stuff specifically made for that – I can’t find my little spray bottle right now, but I think it’s called Goo Gone

Sometimes nail-polish remover (acetone?) works. Just don’t breathe the fumes.

Stop confusing me.

Whatever you’re going to use, be carefull not to damage your lamp.
Try it out (be it liquid, Goo Gone, etc.) on a a piece which isn’t directly visible.

Lighter fluid or a little gasoline or kerosene will work too. Just be careful of fumes and flames.

Here’s a recipe for homemade Goo Gone.

You can also try denatured alcohol. It removes gummy sticker residue on non-porus surfaces, nicely.

Windex, nail polish remover, even rubbing alcohol works.

I’ve seen goo-gone work some miracles, but be sure to wear a gas mask using it… that stuff is absolutely noxious…

Hot water and plastic “steel” wool work for me.
