Should the rev matching feature on the Nissan 370Z's manual gearbox have been put on the automatic instead? Why?

What do you mean? Syncro-mesh? That’s not exactly an exotic feature, and why would an automatic need it?
Because automatics aren’t even directly connected to the gearbox, they are connected via a liquid filled box (to keep things simple here), thus that liquid takes the hit, which is why automatics have silky smooth shifts every time.
@pdworkin, the synchros just prepare the dogteeth for the next shift
