Do (all) hostels in the USA require guests to be 18+?

Asked by LanceVance (650points) August 22nd, 2009

I’ve checked some hostel websites and in many descriptions, there was a requirement that guests be either 18+ or accompanied by a legal guardian.

Additionaly, if anyone knows for a great place (by great I mean a bed with linens, toilet + shower and Wi-Fi access) to stay in Boston and NYC, bring it on. I’ll probably be going to MA in the last week of October and am considering touring the NYC.

Probably has to do with certain laws regarding responsibility, as well as insurance.

I dont think so. When I was in highschool I rented a hotel room with some friends the summer we graduated. I used my debit card and I was 17.It was a Hampton Inn. That was like 9 years ago though so things may have changed.

I know a lot of hotels that require you to be 21+ so I think a lot of places would at least require you to be 18+. Im in North Carolina so I don’t know about Boston and NYC.

The official Youth Hostel has that rule, and hotels usually do, but if you have money, they could accept it. The problem is that any minor can renounce a contract, and therefore get out of paying for a room.

Well, I could probably solve that by paying in advance. Thanks for the answers.
