How can I find a good art class in San Francisco?

Asked by sfgal (283points) August 23rd, 2009

I asked this question a while ago but at the time no one was able to help – I’m hoping maybe new fluther users will have an answer. I’d like to take a watercolor painting class in SF, but I work full time and only have time to take a class that meets one night a week. City College offers a class that sounds great and is affordable, but it’s two nights (6 hours) a week. Any other ideas for classes?? I’d be willing to go to the east bay too, but I don’t have a car, so it has to be near BART.

I’m not in San Francisco, but if I were looking for a watercolor class in my city, I would use two approaches: 1) go to an art supply store and see if they have a bulletin board with class information, or ask the people who work in the store about classes, as most of them are either art students or artists themselves. 2) Google watercolor classes San Francisco, then google the individual results. Check out the credentials of the instructors.

This is a very narrow question, as it could only be successfully answered by a watercolorist in the area, or an art teacher. The concept of “good” is relative to your native talent and ability. What’s good for a beginner is not good for someone who’s been painting for years.

Edit: Check out http://www.artistresource.org They list a multiple watercolor class for adults, as well as individual instruction. Contact information for the instructors for the various classes is listed. They may be able to refer you to a suitable class.

Parks and Recreation has classes in all levels. The studio is on the east end of the park and very transit accessible. Both day and night classes. 1 class/wk but there may be a choice of nights. Usually 10 class sessions, but some offer drop in for $20/class
