I’m looking for a place 2–3 hours from Boston to go with my girlfriend for a couple of nights—ideally on the ocean, B&B kind of place with nice walks, good food, not too touristy.

2 to 3 hours from Boston puts you everywhere from about Rockport, Maine to New York City. Can you be more specific?
Cape Cod, or go to the Rhode Island Shore!
On the outer Cape, after the bend in the elbow, there are charming towns and beautiful beaches. Wait until after Labor Day to avoid the crowds and the traffic on the two-lane Mid-Cape Highway (never mind trying to get over the bridges). Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket also.
Map.
Salem is lovely, too.
I think Booth Bay Harbor Maine is one of the cutest places ever. This time of year lobster rolls, steamed lobster, blueberry pancakes.
It is a 3 hrs and 7 min. drive from Boston.
Take a look at these pictures
cap cod, hands down, a couple hours, and you’ll be surrounded by pine trees and some beach.
A no brainer. Nantucket! late summer is great.
You can also go north to Gloucester and Cape Ann.
You northerner’s have the best places to visit, and within just a few hours from your homes.
Ogunquit, Maine – B&Bs, Marginal Way, quaint shopping in Perkins Cove. Great restaurants. Boating, antiquing, trolley rides. Very romantic.
Rockport on Cape Ann is a cute town with B&Bs and restaurants. Halibut Point State Park has good hiking there and Gloucester good maritime and fishing atmosphere. Can’t go worng with Boothbay Harbor or Ogunquit, ME either.
Anywhere on Martha’s Vineyard. It’s cute, away, and magical.
Martha’s Vineyard is a great place to stay on the ocean near Boston. You can get there very easily by ferry.
