Since the drunk driver often survives the crash that kills the innocent other driver and their passengers, and because the drunk driver is protected by several tons of metal, I suspect cycling drunk is more risky to the drinker. However, it would be less risky to the rest of us.
Drunk Driving = more dangerous to others
Drunk Cycling= more dangerous to themselves.
My brother was riding a bike back from a bar a couple of weeks ago, hit a curb, went ass over teakettle into the ground and broke his face. Nose, teeth, scraped the skin off half his face, landed in an ant bed and got over 300 ant bites plus knocking himself out for over 5 minutes. That earned him an ambulance ride and a lovely expensive CT scan to make sure he didn’t break his head too.
Walking isn’t that safe either, but I think its the best option. For the drinker, driving is less risky than cycling and far more risky than walking.
I think its pretty stupid you can get a ticket for riding your bicycle drunk. Your not going to kill anyone driving a bicycle drunk. Youll just fuck yourself up, and well since your the one who is drunk and making the decision to get onto the bike, i dont really see the big deal in it. Its a whole of a hell like better than getting behind the wheel.
@uberbatman You can hurt someone else… Knock them into the road where they get hit by a car or something. Not to mention going flying over your handlebars into someone… Far-fetched, but possible scenarios.
@avvooooooo i suppose, but how many people are driving a bike drunk during the day when people are walkin.
Drunk cyclists are less likely to be repeat offenders
@uberbatman I’d be more concerned at night when they’re going home from bars or something like that (like when widdle brudder broke his poor widdle face) and people might also be drunk and not see a cyclist.
There was an article in the Sunday NT News about a guy who got busted for riding his horse while drunk (the guy was drunk not the horse). Only in the NT!!!
I think the problem is getting drunk, not your means of locomotion after the fact.
If you want to drink yourself into a condition where you are not capable of controlling your body parts, perhaps you should lock yourself into a safe padded room before you commence drinking, then you would only be harming your liver and brain cells, not anyone else.
The most dangerous part is the only word in your Topics: drinking.
Stay at home when you drink or have a designated driver if you must be out and about. This is the only way to be safe.
Ever seen a biker doing 75 mph? Of course a car can be far more dangerous just to the driver as well.
