Men: would you ever be willing to switch from boxers to briefs or vice versa?

Asked by Mtl_zack (6781points) August 29th, 2009

Today while shopping for underwear I was thinking about what it would be like to wear briefs after wearing boxers for my entire life. I realized that “my boys” need to breath, and that it would be quite hard to make the switch.

Did anyone make the switch successfully? Did it take getting used to?

@Mtl_zack @uberbatman same, I can’t imagine ever switching to briefs.

I really just don’t like briefs and I couldn’t see myself wearing them regularly. I don’t have anything against boxer-briefs and since I wear those as well as boxers, it’s not a matter of switching. I use them about the same amount (now); I didn’t used to, that’s for sure, but I’ve recently become more interested in boxer-briefs.

They do have a transitional option…the boxer brief

I wore briefs for the longest time, as I liked the support. The downside is that they hold your jewels up close to your body, reducing sperm count, and eventually affecting libido. About eight months ago, I swtiched to boxers. The difference was immediate, especially while wearing my uniform pants. It took some getting used to the lack of support, but having my boys hang has its benefits as well. And my libido has returned to almost normal. I say almost because that episode of depression last year caused my libido to take a nose dive like a bird with a head full of buckshot. or maybe its just old age.

As for boxer briefs, those are an abomination. I tried them once, never again.

I wear all kinds (except thongs, which i’ve never tried). I don’t care much so long as they don’t chafe.

drdoombot's avatar

I don’t wear briefs or boxers due to chafing. Boxer briefs FTW!

Syger's avatar

If there was a reason; sure.

avvooooooo's avatar

@kevbo Why not thongs? You might look good in ‘em! ;)

This is one of the few advantages to being a girl… which is immediately canceled out by chesticles and the need for support there. Be glad you’re a guy, at least you’ll never have a wire poking you in the boys.

kevbo's avatar

Um, yeah. Well, I’ll send you a pic, and you can decide.

Facade's avatar

@avvooooooo you could always go braless

avvooooooo's avatar

@Facade Not an option when you get much above about a B cup. I’m way above a B.

Facade's avatar

I think it’s an option. I’m also way above a b cup and as soon as I get home the bra comes off

avvooooooo's avatar

@Facade Yeah, at home. But DDs don’t really do well outside the house without at least a really good built in tank, in my experience.

@avvooooooo i feel your pain as a fellow DDer

Facade's avatar

DDD…but I have had some surgical help so I understand what you’re saying

kevbo's avatar

Is this the part where I get all white knight on your asses?

avvooooooo's avatar

@kevbo How, by offering breast support? :D

Dude, I just noticed my lurve is at “1234!” Sweet!

kevbo's avatar

You bet. That’s what these meat paws man hands are best at.

I love spillage.

I could never wear boxers, they get bunched up in my leggings of whatever pants I’m wearing.

I’ve been wearing boxer briefs since about junior high, and won’t ever go back to regular briefs, or ever switch to just boxers.

I really don’t have any “breathing” problems down there for my boys. I on occasion might have to make an adjustment, but I feel comfortable with my boxer briefs.

Jack79's avatar

sure, no problem. I just wear whatever I find in the drawer, as long as it’s clean.

(I always wondered what the American word for “pants” is, since “pants” means “trousers” in the US. “Briefs” eh? keep that in mind…)

I used to wear briefs as a child , then in my teens made the switch to boxers. Now in my late 20’s i use shorts basketball, football, surfing just cause if i wear anything else , well i end up getting chaffed and it freaking hurts .
Briefs are a type of underwear , i think the US folks say what kind of underwear they mean . Unlike other places where they say pants .

Wore briefs until college, when my g/f not-quite-kindly told me it was time to get rid of the Tighty Whiteys. Switched to boxers, never looked back. I’ll wear boxer-briefs when I’m working out or playing Raquetball or whatever, just to reduce the jiggling factor. But other than that, could never go back to briefs. Too constricting and uncomfortable.

MrItty's avatar

@Jack79 “briefs” = underwear that is tight to the waste and crotch. “boxers” = basically shorts that are worn as underwear. They are both underwear. When an American says underwear, he might mean boxers, briefs, women’s panties, or (less commonly) women’s bras.

And yes, “pants” is what you call trousers… except that we call them trousers too. They’re interchangeable here.

Jack79's avatar

@MrItty yeah I figured as much from the question.

AstroChuck's avatar

It’s a support issue. I’m not giving up my tighty whities.

Bri_L's avatar

boxer briefs or boxers.

But, as a guy who may have to disrobe in front of a different woman for the first time in 17 years, god willing, what do the ladies prefer now a days?

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

I’m a woman just throwing my slightly off topic two cents in: I think boxer briefs look the most attractive on a man, just the right length to cover the ass with no-show through clothes while still showing off maximum leg when un clothed. There are thinner gauge cottons that allow for breathability.

avvooooooo's avatar

@hungryhungryhortence I agree. Boxer briefs are just enough “I” without being “TMI.”
