Any surefire remedies for seborrheic dermatitis on the face?

Asked by dannyswindowsill (2points) August 30th, 2009

Just redness around the lips and nose…I’ve tried dandruff and hydrocortisone creams, but they haven’t been effective.

Go and see the doctor. You’ve tried the standard over the counter stuff and if it hasn’t worked then it’s time to get professional help for two reasons. 1, to check the diagnosis, it may be something else and 2, there are more powerful stuff that you can only get on prescription (accutane for example has been used to treat it).

I wouldn’t be surprised if this were Rosacea.

Maybe it is from dryness? Have you tried vaseline at night?

When you say redness around the nose do you mean right at the bottom, at the opening to your nostrils?

Could be an infection maybe Bacitracin would help, I think that treats staph. Above Mentioned Rosacea is treated with topical antibiotics also, typically metronidazole, but there are others. Those antibiotics would need a doctor’s appontment, unless you live outside of the US?
