While the Venus Project is a wonderful idea, with the Zeitgeist Addendum activist network to try to help it along, it is way too far ahead of it’s time. There simply is not enough people who are interested in the type of cooperation necessary to make it work.
Most of the people I have encountered are very self-centered and do not plan for the future of their own self, much less their grandchildren. This type of forward looking individual does not have enough power in our current society to make it happen.
I, for one, would love to see this type of project get off the ground. I am a member of the Freedom From Religion Society, a group that has yearly meetings near the home of Jacque Fresco. There are many people on Fluther that have indicated they would love to live in a society like this, and many people scattered throughout the US and the world, but to get them to pull up their roots and join in such an experimental group is impossible.
Only the very rich can make communities work, and even then their influence is fleeting. As an example, see Breckenridge, Colorado; Lake Tahoe, California; or Jackson Hole, Wyoming. These are communities that were formed by and for the very rich, with their own ‘societal’ agenda, but have all gone downhill.
Most people who really could make the Venus Project viable simply cannot afford it.
