Could you post a link to your bottle?
sorry guys. I wasn’t done yet. the links are up. thank you so much
From the shape it’s most likely Wesson oil.
Thank you Buttonstc. I will look that up.
Oh Mrs. Butterworth and Frangelico had an illegitamate spawn one night in the shared dumpster of a trendy gay bar, and a waffle house. Hmm butter
I think pancake syrup also, not sure what brand.
My first thought was pancake syrup, too, but after a quick image search I can’t find a match. Can you tell us what it says on the bottom? It’s hard to make out in the picture.
The main reason I didn’t think it was pancake syrup was because of the dark color of the bottle. Syrup doesn’t need protection from light whearas some oils may (or maybe used to). Wesson was off the top of my head from memory, but I’m betting it’s oil is some sort.
Now that I think about it, it could very well be toasted sesame oil which always comes in dark tinted bottles. Maybe they swiped Wesson’s shape.
Google vintage Mrs Butterworths bottle and you will see that they did come in brown bottles.
What does the writing on the bottom say?
@Buttonstc: My first thought was toasted sesame oil too. This bottle is the one I was thinking of. But after I saw the picture I remembered that it’s actually the oil, not the bottle, that gives it the dark tint with Kadoya. Is there another one that comes in a dark bottle?
@Chica
I’m not sure of the brand name as I get all of my stuff like that from a couple of Asian markets in Philly rather than an American supermarket.
Many times they don’t necessarily have an Americanized name but just written in Asian characters.
@Buttonstc: Makes sense. They sell Kadoya at Nippon Daido, the Japanese market I go to. I thought it was pretty ubiquitous in the US. I found the photo by just googling “sesame oil”. I also found this similar shaped bottle of sesame oil. It says “Cheer Come” on the label (whatever that means. But it’s also the oil itself, not that bottle that’s tinted. I haven’t found any sesame oil bottles (toasted or otherwise) of that shape that are tinted.
@kimleechang: This bottle seems to be the EXACT same shape as yours. I can’t tell from the photo whether it’s tinted or not. I tend to think it isn’t, but as Marina points out, it could be that they were in the past.
